Remains unplayaable
Having been away for sometime, hoping that some improvement might be made, I return to the game to find most of the old problems that make the game unplayable. The leader is the transition times between screens or between turns. You could knit a battlecruiser from confetti in the time it takes to cycle through a turn. The developers seem unable to do anything about this issue. There are a host of balance/game play issues as well, like a diplomacy model that's about as deft as a one-armed paper hanger, overpowered van Neumann ships, crippling economy model, dumb research tree, but why bother. Most of these might be tolerated but not when it takes so long just to move from screen to screen or turn to turn. Bah Humbug on the Christmas hats as well.

Agreed, the big issue that really needs a fix is the 3-4minute changes between turns, once they fix that, the game may actually be decent.

I will never buy a game from Kerberos or Mecron again. They've simply surrounded themselves with people who eat this crap up and ask for more. Pathetic..

i used to have 5 to 10 min turn times than randoms crashes i fixed that. by uninstalling and not reinstalling this sorry excuse for a game. maybe in a couple of years they will fix it.

Personally I would say the game would be enjoyable if only the AI were competant and not just charge your planets while ignoring all defences..

"SotS: The Pit" is really good if you like "Roguelike" games. I have the vanilla no DLC game. I like it way way way more than Dungeons of Dreadmore because of the sci-fi theme and ease of understanding what's going on, but most people seem to like DoD a bit more. Northernlion on youtube just did a video about it because they're both in a Humble Bundle now.

I think I've played only a few hours of this game and was like "Um... is there a game here? Am I supposed to playing something, and can someone point me to it?". The entire UI layout is the biggest thing for me. I'm not sure what they were going for there. Plus the fact you can't pan the camera makes trying to move ships anywhere aggrivating.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong I LOVE DoD's tons of classes and humor.

I suffered from this quite a bit for a while. Upgrading your processor might help, but the largest improvement I've found was from reducing the number of species. I'm on turn ~400 in a four faction game without significant turn end times. The other issue might be races; I'm playing only with loa, liir, hiver and sol force.

Dammit, checked the forums for something positive. From this thread and others it sounds like the game is going to remain uninstalled. On a positive note, this game has taught me to wait for reviews instead of pre-ordering because I like the series.

Or you could just reinstall it and see if it works for you. It works fine for a large portion of those that bought the game so the chances are yours could work just fine. But if you would rather pay attention to other peoples opinions rather then check for yourself that is fine.

So, would your opinion here be one of those opinions of other people not to pay attention to? Or do you not include yourself in the advice? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game multiple times. The issues noted at the start remain. The developers tried to address the issue of slow transitions but they apparently can't fix it and have stopped trying or they just stopped trying. Perhaps we'll see a fix in SOTS III, should there be such.

Sigh. Still unplayable two years after release.

Interesting, I've put a rediculous amount of time into this game and don't have any serious turn time issues. At least not any worse than civ5. The main problem I have is the ai is still pretty dumb, but considereing the complexity of this game that's really no surprise, There is also the MP stability issues, but when it comes to single player this game functions just fine from a stability and turn time perspective. I only have turn times of 15+ seconds either late game or on a huge map, which is pretty much expected for this type of game.

Pretty much yes.

I used to have those problems too. But they have fixed those problems for me. What I mean is, that for the spec that I currently use, the game is a smooth ride(and it is a 3 year old computer, so not anything new).
Transitions between screens is max 5 seconds(if even that).
Turn times are about 10-15 seconds at most.

It has been a great game for me for atleast the last 6 months. So I agree with tooonz.
Great game when it works. Sad for those where it doesnt. That has probably something to do with optimization on some systems.
