The developers have no money, most of the updates they have done so far were on their own time when they were done with their other work. As for more, they are trying to make more money with two other games in hopes of coming back to this game.
Which games? i don't know them.
the Devs dont really use this forum, try their forums.

The developers will continue to update this game. They generally update less frequently before the relase of new content or during development of their self-published titles.

If you're interested, they also made Sword of The Stars: The Pit, and are currently making Sword of the Stars: Ground Pounders. Any support for these games indirectly supports updates to Sword of the Stars ][. Unofficially and indirectly.
Y'know, as much as i'd like to suppor the devs in this, they need to actually say that those new games will feed more dev work on sotsII, I'd buy them just for that or heck, kickstart something. I took a look at groundpounders and the pit and they are not my sort of games, so i'd hate to buy them in the "hope" the money goes to SOTS2, if there's one thing i know about business, income does not translate directly to investment... now if they had a kickstart or an Indiegogo(?) campaign, i'd throw money at it faster than you can say... um... "Throw money at this?"

They're busy with their Ground pounders project, and SotS 2 is being worked on by one programmer in unpaid overtime.
And devs and especially Mecron are jerks who don't take critique.
Well, it doesn't surprise me they are low on budget, SOTS 2 had the potential to make them rich, and they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up from the start of how buggy it was and is.
yeah, see i'm always reluctant to blame the publisher when a game launches in the state this one did, (and X:Rebirth, Rome II, Sim City etc) I mean yes they put pressure on devs to deliver but, if a dev isn't very good or well managed as a lot of them would probably admit with hinsight, then they have no one to blame but themselves... not sure what the case is with Kerbs but I can't believe they are completely blameless...
I think that all Kerberos´s games after Sots2 (The Pit, and Ground Pounders) had kickstarter and indiegogo campaigns. The kickstarters failed, but the Indiegogo suceeded, although with less money.

To be honest, before SOTS2, I would have backed anything coming from them. After SOTS2? GTFO

For more support pester Paradox.
You know it's too bad this game was released before the whole "early release" craze because this is one of the few games that it would have worked for. If it had they could have just slapped an earlier release sticker on it and people would have been fine since Kerberos had such a good reputation for updating their games. On top of that people wouldn't have demanded refunds and thus they would have had the money they needed to actully continue with their patches and DLCs which in turn would have made them even more money.
I said that a thousand times on their forums, they could have released it as "Early Access" and nobody would have been pissed, nobody would have felt their money was thrown away.
But they didn't. So ♥♥♥♥ them.

As someone who actually pre-ordered SOTS 2, I can attest that if Kerberos´s staff had just admmited that they would release the game in a Alpha/beta stage, and that they would need our help to get funds to finish it, I would thought of myself as PRIVILEGED for having the chance to help, and I believe that many would feel the same.
However, after the less-than-honest approach to this release...
