Is this game still a wreck?...
I have never played a Sots game before, but I have been interested in this game for some time. But this game was a wreck from release, from what I have heard. Just wondering if its worth the $ yet?

I have played hundreds, maybe thousands of hours of it. It has its rough spots, but no other game has me comming back to it as much as this one does. But I am not you, I have no idea what you like, so all I can say is this game was worth its $$ to me.

Its not a train wreck no. But its not perfect either.
Yes.

Go play SOTS1.
Yes, Sots1. At least first. You might enjoy SotS2 too (which is still buggy), but at least you'll learn basics first that way.
Play Sots Prime first simply because it's simpler to learn.

Sots 2 is far more complex. To the point the self-entitled whiny generation can't handle it.

Oh you :)

SOTS1 is simply a better, more complex, deeper game with, and that is the key, simpler and more intuitive interface AND game mechanics which again are simpler and intuitive.
I disagree, but I dont feel the need to repeat what is already happening in another thread.
I purchased SoS2 on release. At the time it was a real mess. It's a better game now in that it functions and doesn't crash like it did. At present I still haven't played it much at all because I find the UI so wonky and out to lunch. I can't speak for depth of strategy or gameplay because I can't get around how I'm supposed to view it. Maybe the designers felt tech research should look spacey or LCARs or something else but with a simple flowchart I could desseminate the information from would have been preferable. It could be the limitations of my computer but manipulating the interface is disjointed and delayed.

I was disappointed by this game but not moo3 disappointed.
Honestly, I've been playing for something like 80 hours, and it only crashed 4 times, and only when I played multiplayer with my brother. Sure it's annoying when it happens, but it's nothing that would stop me from playing the game. The HUD and gameplay mechanics are far from easy to understand, but all you require is a couple of games to get around easily. Honestly, if you like 4x games, this one is very good and pretty fun, this coming from someone who had never played this kind of game. Definitely buy it.
Weird, I find the tech "forest" one of the least bad UI issues SotS2 has...
Wow......playing for maybe an hr, and 2 crashes already!

Could possilby be due to driver issues as well. Check those.
nice....just froze now.....blaaaaa!!!!
Likely if you are having this many crashes, it is a problem with your local computer. Things like drivers (especially sound drivers) have a habit of tripping it up. Also memory, as the game does have one or more memory leaks, either in the main program or in the SQLite distribuitable. If you can find a repeatable way to crash it though, nip on over to the official Kerberos tech support forums and follow the details there on how to post a usable tech support entry. The Devs actually do still investigate these.

If you have decent RAM, then you should really only find a crash after several hours pf playing (how long exactly depends also on how big a map and how many AI). More often than that, and you most likely have a driver conflict - not to say that isnt something that is SotS2's fault, but given the huge range of possible computer and driver conficurations out there, you might simply be unlucky enough to have found a bad combination that hasant been tested before.

Anyway - it is not really possible to offer you any more help than that - telling us "it crashes blaah" really only lets us respond with the most likely scenario - your computer configuration is at fault.
Also - try playing on a map like small disc, and dont use the Zuul or Loa (as I suspect their pathing code may have a nasty leak in it) and see how you go.
