Have you tried verifying the game cache in steam?
Note: Delete the game profile and the SOST2 picture folder, this fixed the problems I had with the new patch.
I pre ordered this and was severly let down with the number of bugs and the blantant stupidity on the dev teams behalf

TL;DR version - There are two common suggested solutions: Try deleting your player profile from \Users\*username*\Saved Games\*profilename*.xml and try deleting the desktop.ini from the \Users\*username*\My Pictures\ (or \Users\*username*\Pictures\) folder. A third solution is to modify the permissions of the Pictures folder to allow SotS 2 to write to it.
