I think you might be better off waiting for Total War Rome 2 if you enjoy the series.

I have played a couple of Total War titles and have found the combat more difficult and not as fun as it is in The Kings' Crusade.
The combat in TKC is more like the combat in the King Arthur series, which I also enjoyed. In fact I purchased the Total War games because I like KA so much.
I'm not sure why the combat differs so much as all three games are based on the same game engine.

Do not buy this game buggy as hell. The developers who made it abandoned it.

Go with Total Wars, no contest! NOT woth buying this game, mine was free!
v1.03 still has bugs & no further update expected as the dev abandoned the game almost two years ago e.g. no support

Total War 2 is a money pit. Anyone who buys it is contributing to the problem. $59.99 for the game, 14.99 for countless expansions that were already finished at release and then... you want a new army that was already in the coding at release? $2.99 please. I used to be a fan of the series until they went this route. Not buying anymore total war products. I'll try Kings Crusade instead. At least it's reasonable.

This. Total war has gone to garbage.

I would vote Total War : Rome due to the better quality ( no crashing ). I do like the combat and upgrading of leader units in King's Crusade but the crashing at end of numerous battles is extremely frustrating.

The only thing that has gone to garbage is the gaming community surrounding Total War and the sniveling snot-nosed gamers who feel they are entitled to things like free DLC. Sorry kids, DLC is the current model for modern game development, no one should be mad at CA for simply following the trend that 99 percent of all other game developers are going. This is a business, not a charity.

Rome 2 is a fantastic game and eclipses Rome 1, and most of the previous entries in the series, save for Shogun 2 and Empire. The only people who say otherwise are nostalgia-addled idiots who fail to see how Rome 1's major flaws, flaws like non-existent diplomacy, useless units, broken squalor/population system, horrible faction color choices, and repetitive battles the vast majority of which are siege battles which all play out the same.

Rome 2 may have some issues, more when it first launched, but the game has been improved exponentially since launch. Battle AI continues to surprise me, siege AI has improved and I've seen it win battles. Faction AI is intelligent and cunning. The entire strategic map is a living breathing world, unlike Rome 1's RISK-style board game played by moronic AI that declares war on you the moment you share a border.

I know kids, I know, it's hard to face the truth... but the truth shall set you free.

While this is true it still doesn't change the fact that they are expecting us to reach deeper into our pockets to gain the same experience we used to once have at a fraction of a cost.. dlc is a curse on the gaming community. I believe we cannot lift because those in power choose not to sway away from it.. it truly is in fact in this case absolute power or in this case greed corrupts absolutely.

I know our predecessors didn't put up with this ♥♥♥♥ when they were just getting into gaming. What's next charging to have the latest patch fix that takes care of game-destroying bugs in the program.

Come on man this is not the right way for us and for all gamers as a community. When did developers start to think more of their own wallets than the success and pride of their own projects.

I'm sure many of them still remember the times when there was no dlc's in gaming... I wonder why they decided to bring this mess upon onto us :(

Bring back expansions.
Full fleshed expansions.
And dlc missions and content.
Frankly they need to stop spending so much trying to up the tech and new wazoo and get back to core quality.
Some dlc as a concept can be broken too though, like trying to get all the ME2 stuff (non steam version)
