How exactly does anyone fight in this game?

Honestly I just spam elements, am I the only one?

Spamming isn't very effective (at least late in the game and in pvp), to fight you've got to learn the right combo, try to combine different elements and find what you like to use, remember that some enemies are immune or weak to some elements.
There are a total of 1129 possible combinations for 166 different spells, so just try some and see what works for you.

As you go on you'll learn more and more tricks. Even if it's just spam lightning bolt.

I've always really enjoyed doing volcanos (fire, earth, barrier), or water+cold, barrier, arcane, lightning for massive explosive damage, or ARSE mines for knockback.

Or you could start comboing spells, like qsdf then spam sdr to wet enemies then freeze them in a frontal blast. Or water + 4x earth aoe cast then cold + 4x earth for wet then freeze everyone around you.

And don't forget the shields you cast on yourself, like SAFE shields or barrier plus rocks for lots of physical damage resistance.
