It doesn't start - the image doesn't appear , but the application still works and need to restart the computer for this reason.
Mouse cursor disappears.
After trying to disable Steam, AoD communicates this problem:
"Fatal error: Could not initalize video!..."
I would try out browsing through the local files, finding aodgame.exe and then right click -> options and try out the compability modes.
IIRC i had once a win 8.1 pc that had issues with networking code of directx, but graphics shouldnt be an issue, as long as you are running full screen and a valid resolution.
[UPDATE]: I uninstalled AOD, went into my SteamApps folder, and deleted the entire AOD directory. Then I reinstalled. Then I applied the Experimental 1.11 BETA build. Then I tried it again. Playing through the middle of 1943, I have not seen these issues (yet). I suspect that there may have been some VERY OLD AOD code or config files that were interfering with the 1.11 build. I'll update again if I see the issues again.
[UPDATE]: OOPS! Spoke too soon. Got the "air unit contains too many units" script error again on the very next reload.
I am getting the same error messages, too (as Germany) but I had many reloads already and not a single crash.
Isaw the air unit size issue once as well, added quite some checks, but no luck so far to recreate the AI decision to create the bigger unit.
Plane ranges we will check soon, maybe you can provide a savegame?

Here's the savegame. I deattached all ESC-F but when you reattach them to air units, save and load then the air units range is 400 km.
EDIT:
This savegame has an already attached ESC-F to it and shows a maximum range of 400 km (TAC division stationed in Berlin):

Energy Home Produced gradually ticked down by approx 0.02-0.03 per day. Don't think I've seen that behavior before. Intended?
Promoted to Vice Admiral (12 flotillas) and had him commanding 12 flotillas, but the text in the fleet menu underneath his name remained red. Normally it's only red when the commander is over his max.
My game was seriously a-historical, but maybe that was a fluke. Austria refused the Anschluss, which I'd probably only seen maybe 3 times ever in 10 years of playing this game. Japan couldn't make any headway at all into China, and Poland nearly beat the non-Anschlussed Germany, then France absolutely stomped them, including new Axis partners Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Finland. France has 360 IC now in 1942, and some big provinces are still repairing. USSR DoW'd Japan in late '41.
If anyone gets "too many air units" warning from a savegame, please see if you can use a older savegame and check if its repeatable - and how.
@Lennartos: When will the version published with your fix for this issue?
