You didn't mention BO2, its an alright game but I play hardcore and its too hardcore for me as almost every gun is a one shot kill. It just feels different to MW2 and MW3 so I prefer those.
Would buy,
MW3
MW2
MW
---------------
Would not buy,
BO2
Ghost
BO1
but also a good game is Call of Duty 2
CoD4 is best CoD. W@W was a slight step down, IMHO, but it was still pretty good. MW2 was a horrible game compared to CoD4 (OMA/scavenger tubing, commando lunges, painkiller, etc.). BO1 was a little better, but Treyarch's always been better at the campaign/co-op side of things. MW3 was a little better than MW2 (rebalanced grenade launchers, fewer horribly balanced weapons, and the strike package idea was great). BO2 was a MASSIVE step in the right direction, but still wasn't as good as CoD4.
In order of playability, I'd have to say CoD4, W@W, MW3 (assuming you're lucky enough to avoid hackers), BO1 (higher on the list because it has a server browser...), BO2 (again with the hackers thing), then MW2. Something to note is that I've accounted for how the game puts you in matches. CoD4, W@W, and BO1 all have ranked dedicated servers and server browsers. MW2 and MW3 don't have either, using the matchmaking idea from the console versions. (MW3 DOES have dedicated servers, but those are unranked and pretty much completely abandoned.) BO2 is lower than MW3 because, while it DOES use ranked dedicated servers, it doesn't use a server browser. Translation? You can end up playing with people from all over the world and you could end up on a server hosted halfway around the world (BO2 uses traditional matchmaking to form a lobby, then picks a server that works 'best' for everyone).
Small note: I haven't played Ghosts (not planning to, either), and I haven't played any CoD before CoD4.
