Singularity

Singularity

Not available in Australia
For some reason, this game isn't available in Australia on the Steam storefront. How could I get a Steam copy for my region? Thanks.

you could ask someone else to buy it for you and give him a gift of the same worth in exchange.

but always do it via steam trading function, and only trade gift for gift, never for gamekeys ;)

Thanks for the tips, thats probably my best bet :)
I know this is an old thread, but just letting everyone know that I have started a topic on the ActiVision forums here: https://community.activision.com/t5/Activision-Support/Why-is-Singularity-not-available-on-Steam-in-Australia-and-New/m-p/10997532#M72587. Not sure if they'll bother responding, but it's worth a try. It might help if anyone here reading this discussion adds a comment there to say you'd also like the game to be made available in Australia and New Zealand.
huh
didn't steam instlall region lock?
Well, I'm not really sure what you mean, but I did ask Steam for support on this back in September and their response was rather pitiful actually. Here's the email conversation:

I live in Australia, but for some reason this game is not available on Steam here. It's not a banned game in Australia, as far as I can tell.. and can still be purchased here as hard copies (DVD). I know that it's available on Steam because my brother in the UK tried to purchase it for me as a gift, but he was given an error message as follows: "Due to regional price differences, the gift you are trying to send cannot be sent to the recipient's region". This is very disappointing. If it's just a price difference, why not just charge him the correct price for this region instead of altogether blocking it? Anyway, could you perhaps contact ActiVision or whoever is responsible for this game's listing on Steam and find out why it's not available in Australia and New Zealand? I was reading a thread in the community forums that suggested it's likely they just forgot to check some boxes for Australia and New Zealand, because there doesn't seem to be any logical reason for it not being available here. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
Thanks for your comments - we value feedback from the Steam community. I'm forwarding your comments on to the appropriate department.

Additionally, if you wish to share an opinion, suggestion, or idea with the community as well, please visit the Suggestions/Ideas section of the Steam Discussion forums.

This forum is regularly read by Valve's development team.

I know this can be frustrating on your part knowing that you really like to buy and play the game Singularity. However, let's just hope that the publisher will polish things to make this game available in Australia. Rest assured, we will look into this situation.

Your House Elf,
Robby

Thanks for the response, Robby. I really hope this can be resolved. After all, the game is not banned here and can be purchased on disc. So why it wouldn't be available on Steam in Australia when it's available on Steam in other countries makes zero sense and therefore seems like a mistake. However, if there's some strange legitmate reason for this, it would be very helpful to know what that is. I look forward to the answer.

Thanks in advance.

Hey there,

Unfortunately, the information on the Steam Store page is all we have right now, and we can't tell when the game might be made available in your country. We recommend getting in touch with the game's publisher to ask more details about the release.

You can reach the publisher here.

You can also check the Steam storefront for all news and information on the availability of this game on Steam.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

Thanks for using Steam,
Jean-Pierre

Sorry, but that's a pitiful response. You're basically just passing the buck.

For one, I cannot even access your Steam storefront for the game - it keeps redirecting to the home page, because that game is blocked in my country! You should know that!

Secondly, I actually did try to find a way to contact ActiVision BEFORE contacting you. It seems there is no way to contact them about Singularity because their support page only leads to the latest games, while Singularity is from 2010! Since I cannot contact them, it makes sense for me to contact you instead and you contact them on behalf of the Steam community. I am not the first one to ask about this game. You can find a couple of threads here:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/42670/discussions/0/558746995190859423/

and:

https://steamcommunity.com/app/42670/discussions/0/618459297891499041/

Nobody has any clue why this game is not available. It doesn't make sense and seems like a mistake - perhaps the person in charge of the Steam account for the game forgot to check the boxes for allowing it in Australia and New Zealand?? The only way this is going to get resolved is if you guys contact them on our behalf and why wouldn't you ask them? After all, you're losing money for no obvious reason... At least SOME Aussie and NZ customers would like this game!

So I'd appreciate it if you guys would actually contact them and find out what's up with this. It's not like you're unable to! And if there is some legitimate reason why it's not available here, then it would be nice if you could post a message on the above threads to let people know why.

We are aware this game is unavailable in your region. When a game is unavailable for your region, you will not be able to view the store page for that game.

This decision lies with the developer not with Steam.

Steam is unable to tell the game developers what counties to sell their games in.

For example, there are many games only available in Japan. Steam is not going to force these developers to offer their games world wide against their will.

I hope you can understand as the retailer we do not want to dictate the content, rules, or behavior within reason, for our partners.

We have no additional information to offer on this issue. Contact the developer of the title in question for additional details.

After this last reponse from Mandus, the whole discussion was deleted or maybe they just blocked me from being able to reply - I can't remember which, but either way I couldn't have any further say on the matter.

In my final response, I may have come across a little rude, but that was not intentional. I was just a little frustrated that they told me to check the game's page which obviously they should know I cannot do because it redirects to the store home page. What's really annoying though is their final message - where do they get the idea I was trying to get them to force the publisher to do anything? All I was telling them is I have no way to contact ActiVision, but they (Steam) certainly must do... and I thought they could perhaps send a simple message requesting a reason which they could post to this thread for us to at least know why it's not available here. Instead, I get accused of getting upset that they're not forcing ActiVision to do what I want. WTH? And then to top it off, I was blocked from responding further, so I couldn't apologize for any misunderstandings and explain further. Very poor support IMHO.
I just searched for this game to suggest it for someone, and to my surprise, it's not listed on Steam (in Australia). I remember purchasing the physical box back in the day (I can't immediately find it but it should be at the back of my wardrobe somewhere). I believe it was a cardboard box, not a plastic DVD case, and it seems that that's where I got this Steam code from in the first place.

It would have been purchased from either EB Games or JB Hi-Fi. I'd likely have the receipt in the box if I could find it... but my gaming room's closet shelves have literally thousands of games and all the PC ones are unsorted and at the back across multiple shelves... not easy to retrieve.

My records show that I beat the game back in Jan 2011. I definitely didn't go through the campaign twice, and Steam says I've played the game for 8.4 hours, so that physical copy I purchased locally would be what I played.

A couple of years back, I was buying PS3 games and I picked up a second hand copy of it. It's definitely got the Australian rating printed on the cover. Being a console game, I'm more organised with those and it's easier for me to find - so I can confirm that it's not an import.

In short, I agree that it makes no sense that Steam doesn't sell it, when the game was physically sold locally on multiple platforms, and those local PC boxed copies shipped Steam activation codes.
Oh, and that community.activision.com domain doesn't even resolve now. :steamsad:
