AMD could be solved with a driver update, not sure if the Nvidia heat problem can be sovled in the same fashion(by updating driver), but it is worth a try if you haven't done it already
secondly, vsync is applied AFTER all rendering is done. the gpu does the same work all the time, no matter if vsync is on or off. high fps won't raise the temperature, it should be the opposite. low fps should raise the temperature, cause that means the gpu can handle stuff and is at maximum usage of the ressources and all of them cause heat.
@OP: I don't know the engine of the game yet, it might be the case that all you other games engines rely more on the cpu and don't make that extensive use of gpu operations. it can be that the engine that krater uses actually makes some use of your gpu.
i managed to cool my graphics card by ~10C by downloading 310.61 beta drivers for my card.
not saying it works for everyone, but atleast did the trick for me.
