This game scares me (GPU temps)
What settings should I use to have this thing chill it out a little bit (no pun intended) on the GPU usage? TBH right now I am just idling for trading cards, tho I do hope to play the game one day when I have more time to get into it. But still, temps soar immediately to relatively extreme levels, when I'm just on the title/background screen, so I'm reluctant to leave it alone, idling. I'm using a relatively low resolution, low quality, and vsync on, to limit the burden on GPU, but still hovering at 88C! (Relatively quite high for this type of activity.)

What does "limit frame stacking" do? Any other tips? TY.

It'll be the tesselation, you need to edit the user_settings.config file to disable it.

But yeah, this fork of bitsquid used for krater is full of GPU taxing eyecandy that needs moar optimisation, though with temps of 88C, that's usually a sign of case air flow issues or dust build up on the GPU heatsink for older computer builds.

thanks for the unusually informative tips!

for what it's worth, it does look real nice! ;)

as for the temps . . . i play a lot of games, and monitor temps somewhat regularly, which, of course, is how i know this is out of the usual range. sometimes in particularly intense moments in other games i will see higher, but not persistently higher . . and of course, if it does persist, i adjust the settings until it's "safe" (which I was barely able to do, here, which is why I posted.) I'm fine with it peaking at around 90, and I have it set to alert me at 95, but in this case, the fact that I was going to leave my PC unattended for an hour or more, and it was already idling at 88, is what was concerning me.

airflow hasn't been totally neglected but this rig is probably due for a dust blow-out session.

also FWIW it stayed right about there (88) until I shut the game down.

ty again!

Krater's framerate was in the 100's and its vsync option didn't seem to work very reliably, so I used the Nvidia control panel to force vsync on for krater. Now it runs mostly 60fps and, while still pretty hot, it stays cooler - and below my temperature alarms. :)

I'm just curious what kind of Graphics card you have because if you have like a GTX 670 like I do, it should handle a lot of heat.

i have a 470 :sad trombone: but despite the fact that it is showing its age at this point, it can handle a lot of heat ;)

again, tho: the concerns that prompted this post are #1 good cooling/bad cooling, good gpu/bad gpu aside, this behavior is out of step with what i see in almost every other game; #2 I was planning on leaving it unattended, so I was looking for a larger safety margin, not a smaller one.
