Creature Rockets Away

So, this is the second time this has happened. The first time I thought I was imagining things, since I wasn't looking directly at my pet, but the second time I was.

My pet was assigned to work on my treadmill, but he started getting ornery for seemingly no reason (it was full, happy, and set to Passive), walking off to a corner and screeching, at the same time I saw some cat-monsters killing a poacher a little ways off. When I got my pet him back onto the treadmill, I noticed the cat monsters were against the fence near my egg, and so I fought and killed them. I decided to expand my fence so there was more space from the outside. As I was building the fence, the egg hatched, and I saw my original pet getting worked up again. That's when I saw it back up, possibly like in the Charge animation (it has 2 unicorn horns) and then it suddenly rocketed off into the distance, almost instantly. I have no idea where he has gone, and it's the second time this has happened.

When I saved the game and loaded it again, the second rocketeer was back (I've seen that happen in other situations), but not the first one which probably happened about 15+ minutes prior.
