No voices in Ep 2

I've been playing through the HL2 games again and I've played through HL2 and episode 1 just fine,but about half way through episode 2 all the characters stopped speaking. If I turn on captions it says they're speaking but theres no audio for their voices. Does anybody know a fix for this?

My game got an update a few days ago, with no patch notes. It's been doing this ever since.

I have tried everything i can think of to fix this but nothing.. I found someone had this proplem back at 2007 and the fix was to set ep2's language to russia via steam and back to english. When I tried that i noticed my game did not even change it's language.. something is reeeally not working..

To say that the issue has been ongoing since '07 with no fix is slightly frustrating. I also have the same issue. I have no idea what is causing it.

Same here.I just installed steam to a new drive and thought it was related to that. Hope they fix soon.

Me too. I just installed this game for the first time since 2010. I figured it would have been broken for a long time, but all these messages are from the last few days. I already tried the switching to russion in properties trick which did nothing.

I've contacted Steam (since it's a Steam issue) and I'll post the response (and hopefully a fix) here when I get one.

Okay, quick update. Valve/Steam have not got back to me (no disrespect to them, I know they're busy), so I figured I'd patch it myself. I have dialogue and lipsync working again in the Steam version. Dunno where I stand (legally) on distributing it as an unofficial patch, but it works for the English version. I'll compile an installer (or maybe just a RAR file later). Let me know if you guys want it and I'll stick it on Dropbox or something.

Instructions included. Tested. Works all the way through. No glitches, lipsync works perfect and it doesn't hinder achievement earning.
