We are not locking or banning threads. [We have reversed this decision]
Hi Everyone, as we're reading through the forums to answer questions and support players, we're seeing some locked threads and frustration about missing comments. We just want you to know that as far as we're concerned you have the right to believe and say what you want. We do NOT currently lock threads or delete comments. If you are seeing any, we did not do it. It is our understanding that sometimes Steam moderators may lock threads.

That said, our hope is that you find some common humanity on this board. We all suffer, we all have pain. Our hope is that at the very least, our existence on this store can inspire personal conversations that draw us together, rather than divide us.

Thank you for your support and your passion,
-Ryan

[EDIT: After much reflection, we have decided to reverse this decision. You can read more about it in the pinned threads]

Just to follow up, we did some research, and it appears from the end of this thread, that if there are what Steam perceives as violations of their forum guidelines, they will lock threads.

It is probably because of social justice warriors' reports so Steam moderators take down the ones with too much trolling. Thanks for the clarification.
Thank you for your clarifications and admirable approach to these discussions.

As someone who has had to deal with losing a loved one to cancer recently I think I understand why you created this title.

1. Awareness.
2. Face grief head on.
3. Possibly to honor that person?

I have to admit that I was shocked to see something like this on Steam, it's a very touchy subject for me, and although this isn't a game I would want to play right now I applaud your effort and wish you the best of luck.

I totally get it, there's a season for everything. When Joel was sick, I never watched films about sick children, just avoided them wholesale, but after he died, I ended up watching The Fault in our Stars on a flight and sobbed on the plane. I also rewatched The Fountain recently. It's such a gorgeous film. -Ryan

I have to say this is very noble effort for you. Granted you are being subject to vitriol but then again your game deals with a subject that is painful for all with the misfortune to witness first hand.

Thanks for dealing with it. I suspect a lot of it is just personal feelings lashing out. You found your way to cope and some people haven't quite found theirs.
I just want to say my heart goes out to you. Apples and oranges, but when I found out my son had a incurable and debilitating genetic disease, the range of emotions I went through is literally staggering, even reflecting on it some 5 years later. I was furious. I was numb. I cursed God. I begged God. I bargained with God. I apologized to God. I thanked God that he was at least alive. It is still difficult to trace the steps to where I am now from where I was then--that year of discovery and hospitals is a blur. I applaud you for having the courage to memorialize your son in such a loving way, and I'm so sorry for your loss.

maybe you should have spent time with your dying kid instead of spending those years attempting to profit off his death

Wow... really? That's pretty cold. After hearing the story of the game and the family on Radiolab/ReplyAll it in no way sounds like profiting off his death but more using ones skill to help process and grieve. It also helps push the medium into some uncharted territory by attempting to tell such an emotional and obviously difficult personal story.

Just so my stance is clear, I'm not interested in the game myself (just based on the radiolab episode there's too much religion in it for me, and that would make me more depressed on top of the story of Joel). But I am interested in what this game can do for the medium.
Nice to see that the devs aren't deleting anything. It must be particularly hard given trollish comments like the one two posts above me, but it just goes to show you that despite all the criticism, the devs really are the ones with integrity here.
Frankly, I think anyone that comments in the negative -- either for or against -- is missing the point, because the majority of Steam gamers are low-life scum that can't see past their own noses. The dev created a way for his son to live on long after his demise from a brutal disease.

Stop making this about "Gamergate." Stop making this about "SJWs." Stop making this a damned crusade; and yes, that counts for the Tumblrites that descend on ANYONE that says they dislike the game. Both sides of this online war are frigging stupid.

Just shut the hell up, already. I doubt the dev is making a mint off this; better that he do something creative than spend years of his life being an emotional basketcase.

Thank you so much.
Wanted to show around and give a word about the locked & deleted threads.
I've been keeping an eye on this subforum for the last days and issuing some bans and cleaning some inappropriate comments, most of the time the removed threads and bans I've issued are from users with a long history of forum misconduct.
Like for example:

We leave little wriggle room to users making this kind of comments and a long history of previous rule violations.
(user wasn't banned for that post but for a removed thread)

I'll answer questions related to the subject if you wish (Numinous Games, feel free to send me a friend request if you want to)

Thank you for your intervention. This forum needed that.

I am not without my share of being a bit of an ♥♥♥ on other game hubs but I believe this one deserves to be kept as clean from this sort of horrible behavior as possible.

Good move, white knight moves in. Did you send a friend request to the mod?
