Yeah, I went all the way to the end of the level.
This is my combination :
Bow+Crossbow Chick.
It does not work though... any other creature I should summon? (maybe the healing one?).
Is there maybe a spot location where I can stay and hit or must I always move?
Maybe a video or a screenshot could help...
This was my strategy:
He teleports to 3 designated spots. If you keep running around these 3 spots he always teleports away and doesn't get to summon his minions - but you can't hit him either so that's pointless. I tried to put my dog in one of the spots (with the left arrow command, or was it the right?) and then I summoned the rat which was chasing him from the second spot. The rat more or less stayed at one of the spots because he teleports right away. I myself stayed at the third point, trying to hit him but it DOES. NOT. WORK. He is still too fast!
So now I'm stuck at this f*cking level because I don't have any bow and I'm really (!) pissed off. I'm so angry right now about this stupid boss level. Makes me hate the whole game, actually. I don't think I'm going to play it again and this makes me even more angry because I invested money and time in this piece of sh*t and now I'm not even going to be able to finish it!
They cannot make the game unsolvable if you chose one thing wrong. Especially not if the gameplay is actually pretty weak and the story is the only diamond about it. This shouldn't be so hard, dammit!
What's the moral to this? Get a bow or don't get the game...

Actually... while pretty difficult, it *is* possible to kill him. I've done it myself. I do agree that it's near impossible to kill him off directly with a sword, and I had little luck trying combinations of summoned parties (didn't try the new Vorpal rat, though). So, unless some of the above posters are correct and Fnarf stops summoning two minions (who attack you on sight) after 3-4 times (I doubt that he does stop so soon, according to me he keeps summoning endlessly, but I'm not sure), there is no use going after him with a sword or your summoned companions - or maybe you'd need to have very high Rythm stats, perhaps.
Anyway, I took the other way out - without involving any cheatmodes - and that is by ranged attacks. Now, I did have a bow, but luckily, even if you didn't buy one, you can get (a very good) one which fires fire-arrows; you can find it a bit before you have that last level with Fnarf as endboss. It's a treasure drop when you come by a skeleton (the second one, in fact) called 'ex-chosen one' ;-) or something to that regard. It's a pretty powerful bow, and you can use it to easily kill off the treetrunk/hammer throwing Trows of that level as well.
Now, you proceed as follows: when the Fnarf-intro movie ends, stay completely at the beginning/start/bottom of the area. Slowly move a bit forward and the moment you see a red dot on the map you stop. You can actually even fire before you see a red dot and still hit him, but it's a bit tricky to know when you come too close - and when you do, he summons his minions, so you better have your healer and another summon with you. But in that case, just withdraw to the bottom again, and the minions will cease/return, or you can kill them off, and no new ones will be summoned if you stay far away enough.
Now, anyway, at the border of when Fnarf (does not) notices you, start firing your bow. Even if you don't see him, Fnarf will still get hit now and then. There are a few places he can be, so if you don't see any damage after several times (at least a dozen times, though) try to aim at another direction, because he might have transported himself to another point on that map. (Note that the auto-aim is pretty broad though, thus it's no use making slight adjustments. Even if it's vaguely in the right direction, and nothing stands in between, sooner or later you will hit him.) Now, it does take a while, but that way you can kill him off, and without use of any cheat-modes. I can garantuee this works, since I tried and succeeded with it myself (though granted, I got a bit frustrated at first too, when I tried it with my sword/minions).
For those that didn't buy a bow: I repeat; you get one as a drop from a skeleton, not THAT far from/before this endboss fight. So just go back or to an earlier save, and look for that skeleton, pick up the bow, and you'll be able to pass the level the way I described.
It is true they could have made an additional way of beating Fnarf, so he gets a bit easier to kill. It works the way I described it, but I'm wondering if that's really the way it was meant to kill him. It's borderline nigh-impossible to kill him in another way, me thinks, and this extreme-long-range-arrow-shooting him to death feels a bit weird.
I gave up playing this game but I'll give it another try!
Just use the bow with fire-arrows and shoot from the beginning of the area.
Took me about 20 minutes but at least I can go further on with the game now, thanks!
My pleasure! Glad to be of help! Now that it's substantiated by another party, I think little doubt will remain with others that want to get on with the game, but couldn't get passed the level of killing Fnarf. Guess it's sort of a Christmas/new-years present for those that couldn't get passed that level and thought the game 'ended' there for them. :-) I still think they should have put a more viable, alternative way of killing him off, though. A small mistake not to do so, imho.
I've got quite some hours on the game by now (34 hours) and it really is a terrific game! Ok, the gameplay is a bit simplified now and then (all objects you find get turned into silver, some levels are a tad repetitive, etc.), but all in all, it's been a while since I had so much fun. The story - viewed from an anti-hero's perspective - is (even, or especially, today) original and great, the subplots are novel and well found (think about the boss fight with the (un)dead viking king, which isn't a classical 'fight against'), and the conversations are often truly sublime, especially the snarky sarcastic remarks of the Bard and of the one(s) it's aimed at. The songs are usually very catchy and a boon too. And the eye for detail (aka; in regard to lore, or funny hints) is quite high, for such an old game.
Seen in 2014, the game is not top-notch anymore in regard to graphics or game-play-mechanics, but I can honestly say it gives more fun than many a WOW-clone derivatives or more modern RPG's. It's still needed to think tactical about what party/summons to use, though maybe the bow is a bit overpowered (certainly in the Fnarf-fight) compared to other weapons. At some levels, preparation and timing is very important too. There are a few things that would improve upon this game for sure, if it were made nowadays. But...these kind of games aren't made these days anymore, which is exactly the point (and a pity).
For all its little faults and hints of old age that is showing now and then, I can honestly say it's been a while since I enjoyed as much a classical RPG like this. Sure, it's no Baldurs gate and certainly no Skyrim, but in its own right, it's a gem. The light-hearted/fun take on things is what is missing in current RPG's. It's been since... Drakensang that I had an RPG with that more frivolous, light&fun approach in it. Sometimes, it's quite hilarious and I really laughed out loud. And sometimes, the gameplay does surprise you after all (floating/moving ice to fight on!). It's like a good mix of indie and classical oldschool-RPG, which simplified some aspects to focus on others. In short; it's kept simple, but fun.
I don't think it will be to everyone's taste, but to those that can appreciate the strong points I just indicated, the game will certainly be appreciated. Since I bought it for 2,24 EURO at promotion, I can't say I'm sorry of the money: it has been a splendid, huge price/fun benefit-comparison for me - and as said, I'm already at 34 hours and I'm still not finished. It's CERTAINLY worth that money, and even the regular price is still worth it, now that I'm playing it and can gauge it's value. If you're into this kind of old-school/funny RPG, this is definitely worth a try.
I was near the bottom of screen like SVDP described and if stood in the middle of the water I found I was close enough to fire two arrows at Fnarf (Who was standing off to the left!) if I got to close he would teleport to right of water. So he would just keep teleporting to each bank on either side I tried to close in with swords.
This went on for a while, because there was another glitch That I can't shake that doesn't effectively allow the bard to use his bow properly. He can very rarely fire a arrow if he has a
enemy targeted. Rather frustratingly I was only able to shoot him twice before this delicate arrangement got ruined and the bard was eventually beaten again.
I was able to get the Bard to successfully shoot any of the Trow Caber-Tossers & Shot-Putters on any of the proceeding levels where they're on those steps with the magical barrier blocking the only way up to them.
The first time I started on those step levels, I couldn't do it at all and then decided to attack the creeps (Old Term from Warcraft three and DOTA.) in between town to gather enough silver coins to buy the large bow from the store in Kirkwood, you know the fat pompous owner of the Velvet-Hammer and the Harp that allowed the bard to summon two helpers at a time.
I returned to the steps that lead to this difficult with battle Fnarf and still found I couldn't use the bow despite the extended range I had originally imagined it would give the bard. So, luckily, I had also acquired tune for the female archer from my visit to the Trow infested woods with that sneaky one living in the treehouse. I also acquired the tune for the Crone as well. I really though I was set as my bard made his way back to Highland Park.
I simply learnt that all I could do was use the Crone Healer along with the Archer to do all the shooting for me here and all the way to this final fight with Fnarf. Between a lot of false where I just got the Bard killed or had to restart near a save point because the female archer couldn't shoot all the Trow before Mell's fear-factor ran out. I eventually got to that stage and because I can't running back to last save point before they could respawn on the steps again.
They would always respawn if Mell's fear got the better of him and this was so frustrating when I was playing early this morning.
I'm so glad I was able to save the game right before the final confrontation and yet even more frustrated that I still can't beat this level. I know I did it all once before while playing this game on a PSTWO so many year ago. Yet, it's very glitchy or buggy on the PC.
I continued to use the Archer and Crone on this level and even tried that Vorpal Rat that is so short lived and think it's real unfair that that can't even touch Fnarf before he teleports. I know he must be defeated by the Bad alone and probably with the bow and arrow, but the stinking bloody thing don't even work now. I don't recall having such a problem with it while playing this on console. The controller is so much more efficient sometimes.
I also used the firefly or faerie-fly with the gruff Scottish accent and found that during the short time I was able to have the Bard shoot Fnarf twice. He was also able to stun him a few times. Not that bothered to have the Bard wade then and there with his combination Sword and dirk.
Trying to beat it again now....
As for Fnarf, I've only managed to kill him while my Light Fairy was keeping both of his summoned trow busy. I tried using the Vorpal Rat, but it was more likely to kill the summoned trow, which meant more summoned trow. And since those summoned trow always head straight from Fnarf towards the Bard, they're quite effective meat shields right after being summoned. And quite deadly distractions once they get close to the Bard.
