no the only way to get it back is to start over. which is a no go. man i wish i didnt spend it on all those weak mobs da**it they should say Hey this will disappear. not to much to ask for now is it?

does anyone know if this drops anywhere else? do i have a chance of finding another one.

Yea it has charges and when the charges are used up its done. There are random chances of having another one drop.

I think in Bards Tale II & III items will show how many charges they have left. Unfortunately I used to know a cheat to be able to purchase any item from the equipment shop, but it only worked on the C64 version of the game.

also - i dont know if this works in the new version, you used to be able to copy characters in the party editor. if that still works you coulod copy a guy with a fire horn and get another

Unfortunately a lot of the original cheats and secrets have been removed..i.e., the dupping cheat which involves character swapping and what not that left a phantom character with all the gold and items on it...also the ability to press "z" when outside to summon a free elemantal...stone I think...which made BT1 a breeze in the early adventuring stages...also there used to be all sorts of third party hacking tools to edit stats, inventory, gold and whatnot...those definately don't work anymore as the file types have changed...Still...the memories this game brings back...use to own all 3...played it on my Tandy3000...wow...Tandy...

Necrocomment: the items in Bards's Tale 1 don't have charges, they either have a single use, or a chance to go away. Every time you use the fire horn, you're rolling the dice. It only runs out fairly rarely.

As for "the z cheat being removed", it isn't. It just only ever existed in the DOS version, and this isn't the dos version. Item duping with character disk swapping isn't really available, but it's not too hard to take a hex editor to your save disk and give yourself whatever you want if that sort of thing floats your boat. That's how I started down the road to becoming a programmer way back when, anyway.

I believe from old posts that bards tale 1 items like fire horn, etc that have "uses" have a 1/64 chance of disappearing after each use. Best way to use them? if you are using it between saves, save often so if you have a nice horn and use it against big mobs, if you are near a save point and it is still there after you use it a while make sure to save so it still there.

The starting fire horn with a bard with high dex is a great way to waste stronger big mobs early on to level you up faster, but you really don't need to use it vs weak small mobs on the off chance it will disappear.

nah they had set numbers of charges and disappear once last charge used

side note: you can recharge the items by selling them and buying back at least i could way back on the C64
