Linux / SteamOS?
Do you have a Linux version planned? I preordered the HTC Vive and this looks like one of the experiences I'd love to jump into right away.

Well, SteamVR is not available yet on Linux, but once it is, we will surely take a look at it!

That would be awesome

I hope you're using a cross-platform engine (and middleware) and aren't writing a lot of platform specific code then. Since Valve has been pushing SteamOS pretty hard there's no doubt SteamVR will come to Linux soon, but I hope individual VR game developers won't make decisions early on in the development process that will prevent their games from being ported later.

So what engine and related tech are you guys using?

Unity, so that's doable. We are using a custom 3D spatial audio library, we'll have to check how that translates.

You should be good with Unity3D indeed. I'm curious why you decided to write your own 3D audio library when there's FMOD, OpenAL and Miles Sound System on the market that coincidentally all work fine with Linux. In any case, if you ever need help with porting code there are some incredibly talented guys with lots of experience you could contact and hire freelance:
and I'm sure there are others. Since you're using Unity3D I assume you do most of your work in C#, so in that case Ethan Lee is probably your best bet since he has a lot of experience with that from his FNA project, which is an open source reimplementation of XNA4 which is based in .NET

Once the HTC Vive supports Linux, it would be nice to see a GNU/Linux build of this game! :bpenguin:

Any chance you might take another look at this? There is some limited support for Linux SteamVR in Unity3D. It's not 100% but if you could give it a shot and it turns out it works that would be pretty great, given the limited amount of games for us VR penguins at the moment :)

It's currently not a priority since the amount of VR-enabled Linux systems is limited, but we're actually doing some tests on this topic.

That's great to hear.

If it's of value, I'd be happy to share any feedback or advice that might be helpful.

Thank you! Even if it turns out to be more trouble than it's worth at this stage, your efforts are appreciated.

Wouldnt it be way easier to dual boot windows than to suffer through Linux compatibility... I never understand this mentality.
Get Windows PRO so you can over-ride EVERY setting and learn to use it. People that hate Windows A. have the home version, B. Dont know how to use it (I admit theres only 2 levels, mildly retarded [wow - it bleeps that word- ok IQ on par with current US president - his real one] and 2. Uber Pro Windows Sysadmin Programmer God & and Powershell master, there's not so much a middle ground- and the rules totally changed Win XP-> Win 10). But once I moved closer to 2 than 1, I started to love windows again. I never boot into Linux anymore- it's so far behind.

I have a bit of an annoying issue where the game wont close down properly. I press the quit button, everything seems to be fine but if I look at steam it think it is still running. I also can't launch it again until I restart the system.

Other than that though it's running well on my Index using a 1500X and Vega 64.

Can you post some OS and hardware specifics about your setup?
