Am I the only one who wasn't interested in Emily?

I was perfectly happy with friendzoning her (i.e setting up boundries when she came to visit, telling her I was interested in Emma), and then when the ending hit, I felt a little down, thought "Aww, that's sad. It would have been fun to stay friends," and reset the game to unlock those silly icons. But when I check the community page, everyone's crying about how much they liked Emily, and how they hate Brad for taking her from them. So I want some opinions, is there anyone else who considered this a story about becoming distanced with old friends, rather than being rejected by a girl? After all, art means different things to all those who expirience it, so I'd like to here some other people's thoughts.

I also played this way, it narratively felt like it was pushing me towards her being a love interest or having a crush on her or something. I basically did something similar in Life is Strange where I friendzoned all my romantic interests. Not every game needs to be about romantic relationships. O_o

This was how I played it also. I played through three different times and refused to budge on just being friends to see if there was a way to get a different ending. I had been wondering if the game always ended with an awkward relationship where the game wont let you talk about your feelings without changing what you say or if I had just an automatic fail state if you friendzone her, but now I see that even if I had tried dating her she would have ended up getting back Brad and drifting away from you no matter what. I also didn't like how even if you say you don't have feeling for Emma your character is still upset when she dates Mike. Why? Can't you just hang out with her and Make since all three of you are friends? The worst thing though is that at the end of the game you're not allowed to talk to Emily and instead are forced to make inane small talk until you have no other option to say goodbye. It's kind of an interesting "becoming distanced with old friends" simulator, but I feel like its a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ending for Emily. I feel bad that shes always destined to get back with her ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ex whose friends treated her like ♥♥♥♥ after they broke up and that shes still miserable no matter what you say to her.

I mean, the point is basically to stress how we distance ourselves from our friends over time or ruin our relationships (whether actively or inactively) but... yeah, there are no happy endings... which I guess is the cynical moral of the story?

♥♥♥♥ this game man why try and make it more than it is, wasn't sad to me, was rather pathetic and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I've talked to dudes in Libya who are being hunted and killed...

I swear to god one friend I had who was cool, I was talking to him on his last days I think. That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sad and depressing, not this made up ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Meh, both me and my brother were playing it.
He thought it was gonna have a "We are dating now yay" ending
I couldn't be happier that we are friends.
My brother, unlike the other male gamers, was more suprised than mad, but was disappionted because of how he couldn't do anyhting.
But at least he didn't go saying 'EMILY IS A HOE!!" "stupid brad1!1"
