Welocme to the Zone. A Post-Apocoliptic hell-on-earth. Radioactive anomalies and crazed mutant creatures. Oh yeah, and the odd bandit raid and zombie attack. Your travel agent is a ♥♥♥♥♥, unless you are Major Degretev ( I just mispelled that), a USS oprative sent in to investiagate a failed operation to the Zone. In which you discover the nature and the sheer disructive power that is the excusion zone around Chyernobl.
Gameplay 9/10. A solid method to a well filled nitch, some will find it similar to Fallout exept it is not 100% rediculus, also the artifact hunting is a cornestone of the game in its story and its economy.
Graphics 8/10. Good for a game of this type, however I don't recommend cranking the graphics to 10 unless you have a good rig.
Story 9/10. It is hard to mix story and non-linear gameplay, but they did a good job encorpeating it.
Realism 2/10. Yes I actually made this a catagory on which I grade. This, like many other FPS games are the same. You can somehow walk out into a hail of bullets in an overcoat and somehow come out on the other side and laugh. Also if any of you have burn yourself on the oven taking something out, that is about 500 degrees F, a fire anomaly here is 1000 degrees C, and you can pitch a tent there for how long you can make it before taking a decent amount of damage.
Another thing to know, none of the weapons in this game have their real names, ex Martha is the name for an M9.
Overall a good game which is short on realism and difficulty, which is fine. For anybody that thinks the Zone is too warm and cuddly for you, I deeply recommend the Misery mod. It is a full concept modification that changes and enhances, well every aspect of the game. As far as graphics are concerndmore contrast and darker colors, while taking the definetion up a notch or three. ( Do not attempt a high or even mid graphics if you have a low end rig). And for gamplay and realism. Well I'm not sure if you noticed, but it is called Misery for a reason. Most will spend a few hours on it and rage quit if they do it for their fidrt playthrough, so don't. Get some COP playing under your belt before playing. Also, dont do what I did first time round, which is pretend you are still a tank, play this like Ghost Recon (not future soldier) avoid detection and invest in a sniper rifle. This is not for every STALKER but is worth it.
