What S.T.A.L.K.E.R i should start with.

Start with SoC. You can skip Clear Sky if you wish although I personally wouldn't. While not as great as SoC or CoP, Clear Sky has its own charm and pretty decent gameplay. Also, if you really want to kick your Stalker playthrough off on the right foot, go to Moddb and download SoC LOST ALPHA. It's basically the original SoC heavily modified and it includes a TON of content that was cut from the original SoC. Best of luck.

Start with SoC, it explains things best and directs you in the right way most of the time. CoP is too open for new players and CS is a mess.

I played all 3, but I've only really put time into call of pripyat. Not because there's anything wrong with SoC and CS mind you, since my old PC couldn't quite handle them and since I already had experience with STALKER and stalker-likes, I jumped forward to call of pripyat when I got a decent PC. I hope to return to SoC and CS and complete them some day, though.

The following analogies are brief and may not be 100% accurate because of that lack of experience.

Shadow of Chernobyl is a little dated but it felt very... "ripe" to me when I played it. I recommend starting with that.
Clear Sky was interesting but it was, well, I wouldn't go so far as to call it a mess but it was a different experience. Different in a way I can't put my finger on.
Call of Pripyat does feel too open and sandboxy for an absolute new player to play as their first venture into the STALKER series. You probably won't know what to do and you won't be able to make much sense of the story of it without having experience in the prior games.

Bottom line is, I suggest starting with shadow of chernobyl or clear sky. None of the STALKER series are inherently bad games, in my opinion.

I am starting with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat Misery Mod 2.1. Never played a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game before! Loving every second of the awfully steep learning curve. Too many games are a cake-walk IMO. Ziggy's mod on Farcry 3 now seems like child's play in comparison.

I have questions about health right now but between the wiki, YouTube, and reloading and reloading and more reloading of the last chapter....well I'm still alive again (after so many deaths) and I'm slowly figuring it out.

Is Misery Mod 2.1 worth the pain? Absolutely! I am In the Zone!

Imho Clear Sky is the best game in the series, by far. Has the best graphics, highest difficulty, its the most complex, and offers lots of stuff to find and lots to do. Its also the buggiest, sadly.
People dont like bugs and cant cope with the difficulty so they avoid it.
Nobody can tell you which one to start with, some people i know liked starting with Clear Sky, others hated it and liked starting with SoC.
Me i started with CoP and loved it.....
So what does that tell you?
You have to try yourself and see what you like best, just because others tell you to start with this or that, doesnt mean its the best for YOU.

Roger that on the buggy Clear Sky! If it was more mod friendly, then them bugs can be sorted out. It was cool to go through the marsh and Limnisk..

Id start with either SoC or CoP, both are quite similar. Story wise id probably start with SoC, but CoP is the better game with complete or misery imo.

I would skip CS altogether as others have said, awful buggy game and totally linear like Metro.

Clear Sky is the least linear of the three games.

This is true, and it is free, and it is beta with some issues. But I like it, GSC should have grown a set and stayed with it despite THQ's protest I think...They should have done the series like that style enviroment. Look at elder scrolls Oblivion and sky rim, If they can do it, I do not know why GSC dosen't.
