ZATON ( russian ) is a Backwater, backwater part of the river, and protected from ice and currents. The backwaters are both natural, for example, turned into the Bay the bed of the oxbow lake, the part of the area, fenced off from the main waters of the bias river island and artificial, separated from the main river dams.
The backwaters are often used for winter sludge river vessels, they often have ship repair workshops.
Basically, what i see happen is that with A-life, a large collection of various Stalkers and Mutants may have randomly gathered near the map spawn. If a huge free-for-all begins, it could crash the game.
I see it most often in Yanov, next to the Anomylous Grove. A Psuedogiant, several blind dogs, a bloodsucker or two, mutant rats, and Psuedo or Psy-dogs, along with a dozen or so bandits, Stalkers, Duty/Freedom.
A big pile like that, CRASH. If I then reload, CRASH.... but if I reload far away and approach from the EAST (railroad line/Aquifer) for soem reason, it doesn't crash, I can approach the hoard and start picking things off. It still has a big chance of crashing, call it 50/50, but if it doesn't and I start killing things off the games, choppiness, or unresponsiveness starts to get better as more things die.
Now, I've also loaded into Zaton and heard a TON of guns going off for almost a second and...CRASH. I'm assuming another big fight was kicking off that the game engine couldn't handle.
Now, again, it is a long shot. When I have that problem, I ethier avoid ever traveling to that map for several (at least 6) in-game days, traveling the other maps, or just repeatedly sleep away 6 or 7 days (make sure to eat).
What this SEEMS to do is let the A-life further process and randomize where every living thing is, and I can then load back into the map sibnce the mass of enemies have scattered or wandered off.
Long shot, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
Anyway, thanks for your feedback.
