If COM is like normal misery then misery isnt even half as hard as i first expected it to be
So far pseudodogs have been the biggest obstacle, killing me early on in 3 of the last 4 attempts, but on my current playthrough I think I've figured out an answer to them. But to try and play Misery without dying at all is very scary stuff. I have to drink caffeine and get my blood sugar levels elevated just to load up the game. To be sure I'm ready and alert for anything.
Constantly punch yourself in the nuts, that seems to keep one awake and alert XD
How does one properly get artifacts in Misery?
You have to carry artifact containers on you or risk being radiated. Use you plyers and you should be able to put artifacts in or out of the lead containers or the Artifact Application Items, artifacts and artifact hunting is more for later in the game when you have a nice eva suit.
The echo and bear detectors are useful to have in case you have an opportunity to go into a relatively benign anomaly in the early game. You can find jellyfish, crystal and stone blood artifacts for a useful 2-3000 rubles.
Once you get through to Jupiter you will be getting hold of the veles detector which is better but it still won't get you the really valuable artifacts. You will need to complete the svarog detector quest to finally get going and earning big. Then you should stock up your stash with the ones that Beard likes to request because completing an artifact fetch quest for him doubles the money earned instead of just trading them.
An early Beard quest will send you to the highly radioactive dredge station for an altered wheel artifact (unique) which must be given to Beard to trigger further artifact fetch quests. In Misery all artifacts are found inside anomalies, which present their own problems. Hot anomalies are completely deadly until you can get an ecologist suit and even then they are very dangerous until you can afford to find and carry the very best heat-resistant artifacts on your belt.
I do have preferences though--my favorite recon weapon is the OTs-14-4A: that subsonic bullet is just excellent and worth the expense. I also love the Fort 12 pistol. It is crap compared to most of the others but it looks so darn nice. But with these two weapons I can handle anything.
planning on doing assault real soon
You can get the ones in electric anomalies with only a bolt, but you have to be really fast. You have to trigger them with the bolt and run thru, get the artifact, and try not to get hit on the way out.
If you're really really dedicated, you can probably scrounge up some gravis and buy some AAMs and shove em in there, and go into like, the boiler or burnt farmstead while wearing a light overcoat with 3 gravi. Your overcoat will be shredded by the time you get out, but you should survive long enough to collect some eyes or crystals.
As for acid anomalies, don't bother until you get an eco suit. You're not gonna be able to do it.
Do note that artifacts, LLCs, and the eco suit way a LOT. And encumberance is awful in the eco suit. And the eco suit degrades extremely fast when hit. So like, you really only want to wear it when you get to the site.
At the end of the day tho, most artifacts aren't worth too much. Only the ones that beard buys for 19k rubles are really worth getting. Also, NPCs can loot artifact sites, so there might not even be anything there. You'll have to kill the NPCs to get them, which is much cheaper.
