Update 172672 - public beta
Build 172672 for Serious Sam 3 is now available in beta "publicbeta", which does not require a password. It contains a number of general fixes in the game, as well as some that are specific to the Linux version.

To install the beta, do this:
- locate the game (Serious Sam 3 in this case) in the Steam's "Library" panel
- right click and invoke "Properties"
- select the "Betas" tab
- choose "publicbeta"

Update 172672 contains a number of general fixes in the game, as well as some that are specific to the Linux version.

- IMPORTANT FOR LINUX: Most of the weird performance problems in previous builds were caused by performance throttling (aka power saving) features on various CPUs not correctly identifying that the game is running and continually jittering between low and high performance modes (several times per second sometimes!). This build adds a workaround for this which should hopefully prevent the symptoms from being so extreme. It is not perfect however, as there might still be a few percents of performance to squeeze out. The recommended solution is to turn off such features in BIOS for Linux machines. They can be found in BIOS under names such as SpeedStep, Cool'N'Quiet, C1E, PowerNow!, Power Saving, CPU Throttling, Dynamic Frequency Scaling, or something else - depending on your BIOS.

- Added a script that offers to automatically install libpci.3 on linux if it is missing.
- Fixed graphics corruption under OpenGL if game is minimized or "alt-tabbed" while it is loading content.
- Fixed screen-shot grabbing and manual save-game thumbnails not working under OpenGL. 
- OpenGL library can now load even if some vendor dependent functions are missing.
- X11 libraries on Linux are now dynamically loaded, so game can properly report and error if something is missing.
- Dedicated server on Linux no longer requires X11 to be installed.
- Fixed problems with filenames of wrong case that happened only with Linux dedicated server.
- Full support for language packs in Workshop. Language mods can now work even in pure (non-moddable) version of the game, and don't require any customization from user side. Just subscribe to them.
- Workshop packages menu is now also available in non-moddable version of application (this allows enabling/disabling of language packs). 
- User is now properly notified when Steam Workshop content download fails. 
- Fixed issues that might have prevented some user accounts from uploading to Workshop.
- SeriousEditor now displays Steam Workshop sync progress in status bar.
- Upload to Steam Workshop command is no longer available until Steam Workshop sync is finished. Previuously, it locked up the application.
- Fixed an issue causing clients to always see weapon change on HUD at game start.
- Fixed a lockup happening if spectator cameras are linked in a closed loop. This only happened with user-made levels.
- Weapon change attempt is now correctly being indicated on HUD if performed during sprint. 
- Fixed popup menus in Serious Editor sometimes going off the bottom of the screen in multimonitor setups.
- Fixed duplicate directory entries being shown in Serious Editor in file browsing for directories inside user-made .gro files.
- Added vertex merge when importing fbx meshes. 
- Added facilities in Serious Editor to automate editing on entities from console scripts.
- Added cfuncs edtGetMemberValue(strUserDataPath) and edtSetMemberValue(strUserDataPath, value) used to change entity properties.
- Added cfunc edtSelectEntityPropertyByID(iEntityID).

Again without Bulgarian for the game. Only for the DLC :(.

PS: I will made changes! Do not add it yet! Then I will send you a fixed version with Serious Sam(BG)'s feedback. We have some more things to fix :)).

I have a fun issue. It's the the original release as well as this beta.

I'm running a dual monitor setup with (separate X screens) the latest 310 drivers on Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit.

While playing the game in windowed or full screen I only have full 360 mouse rotation while turning right. Left stops about halfway. If I configure my secondary monitor to be on the left the same problem occurs in reverse.

Using xrandr to temporarraly dissable the second display does not fix the issue. The only "fix" is to disable the second display in xorg.conf and re-launch the X server.

Any ideas?

Venn, the log shows your setup looks all good. We would need to find out what's special so that you have this problem which no one else does (so far). Just to clarify, this happens even in windowed mode?

ALenL, Indeed. I noticed the mouse capture after posting the log. It also occurs in windowed mode. Wonder of something odd is going on with XFCE.
Venn, I've had a similar issue when using any openGL apps with dual monitors in linux in the past (using the prop nvidia drivers). For me it only happens if I have a window maximised and move the mouse to the edge of the monitor (at the edge where my second monitor is). Maybe try running the game windowed and make sure the window is smaller than your screen, so it's not near the edge, that usually works for me. As for full screen games, I have not tested this yet.
AlenL, this update runs much better performance wise for me. It also resolves the "black screen" issue I experienced on XFCE.

I am curious about Venn's issue. I also have XFCE4 with dual monitors, but am able to run in Windowed mode without any serious mouse input issues.

I can't seem to get so far as the main menu. I'm running the x64 distribution of Ubuntu 12.10 with unity. I have the nvidia 310 series drivers, with three monitors in a TwinView configuration.

The game starts, occupying only my primary screen (1920x1200) - but the log files suggest that the game is under the assumption that it commands 5760x1200 pixels of screen real estate. Nothing seems locked, up/down arrows produce sound effects which would suggest that I'm perusing an off-screen menu, and an alt+f4 is quick to close the application.

Venn, I've had a similar issue when using any openGL apps with dual monitors in linux in the past (using the prop nvidia drivers). For me it only happens if I have a window maximised and move the mouse to the edge of the monitor (at the edge where my second monitor is). Maybe try running the game windowed and make sure the window is smaller than your screen, so it's not near the edge, that usually works for me. As for full screen games, I have not tested this yet.

Thanks for the feedback. That said, I would have not bothered mentioning this but Killing Floor and Amnesia (or any other Linux game) has not produced this issue. I'm convinced it's due to the inability to capture the mouse. Yes, it's been tested in windowed as well. We're giving out a few keys this week on the show so with some luck our listeners will provide some addition feedback.

Kubuntu 12.10, 64-bit, Latest updated Steam. It keeps asking if I'd like to download libpci.so.3 despite it's installed already and being found by the game itself. I guess the script is searching the wrong path on the 64-bit version. The installation path is /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpci.so.3 which symlinks to the actual file being version 3.1.9. Other then no biggie since I can just Cancel to continue loading game, and I do see some nice improvements in performance. Looking good! :)
BTW, I think there's a few spelling errors in the script. Or at least the one I found.

Just a heads up that we are looking at all your reports and comments, and we are working on fixes. There are several more things already fixed, and some in the pipe. I hope for a new beta on Monday or Tuesday. We fixed some things with multi-monitors, some with mouse grabbing, possibly some solutions for some corruptions (but it is hard to know if we got them all, as there are probably several causes of GPU objects getting damaged and needed reupload at various points like task switching, resolution switching... this is still to be examined in detail...). And yeah, that libpci installation script accidentally got through the build in a broken state so that basically works for no one. :) We got that one fixed for next update.
