frame rate
have you ever played this game and noticed an major drops in frame rate. the game is playable but i found it strange when i looked at the minimum system requirments and found out it was asking for a X1600 or higher. yes it also said ATI/AMD 3600 as well but seeing the required power for the game it may need a little bit more of a kick than that. my ATI 4200 hd can run the game with some frame rate lag but its playable. to be honest with you I thought i may have bought a game that was way to powerful for my computer to run. oh yeah if you want to see what serious sam 3 looks like on lowest settings look at my photos. you will be surprised (or not i have no clue.)

P.S. if you are playing serious sam 3 on lowest settings (like with a ATI 4200 hd) and you are hosting a co-op game or any other type of game you will have the worst ping (140-288 the best estimation i can give you) your better off joining games.

you may need a gaming card or a good graghics card to get the best fram rate and detail

A 4200 is way below the minimum. The minimum is a midrange card and the 4200 is a low-end card. The old X1600 is much more powerful.

well i guess i should be lucky i was able to play the game on such a low card. why did it aslo ask for a ATI/AMD 3600. how poerful is a x1600

My sister's able to run it on just an ivy bridge i7 with no dedicated graphics card... no bad frame rate drops.

The last three digits are what you need to pay attention to. That tells you the level of relative performance. 500-699 is mid-range. 700 and higher is high-end. Below 500 is low-end and not designed for gaming. The first number is the generation. The 4200 is a newer card than the 3600, but low-end instead of mid-range. Basically, you need at least a mid-range card at least as powerful as a X1600.

By the way, I tried to run the game with my integrated 4200 when I had to RMA my card and it was completely unplayable. I then tried using my old X1800 and the game was at least playable.

well so far i am surviviing with this card. i might go to the local discount pc store and see if i can see if they have at lease an x1800. the 4200 at this point seems to run games like killing floor and team fortress 2 fine. however i do realize this card is way to old to realy play a game like serious sam 3. at this point i will stick with this thing until i can get some money

P.S. this game card can run serious sam 3. it just seems to have some low frame rate. but like i said i realize it is really old (i can deal with the low frame rate untill i get something stronger)

it's true that ati 4200 it's not powerfull card and it's not dsigned for gaming. however try to disable underground services of windows, upgrade your graphic driver at last version with last cap and disable any sort of antialiasing like shadow antialiasing.
Don't set too high gpu memory value ok? I hope this is helpful.

i did all that alrealdy. graphics card driver is up to date and the game still has low frame rate. like i said. i may end up haveing to go out and buy something stronger later on.

Part of the problem is not necessarily the hardware. Some games are just poorly coded and optimized, meaning you could have a NASA-grade computer and it would still have a low frame-rate. I'm not saying that Croteam have done a bad job with Serious Sam 3, but some of the levels could probably be better optimized.

I can run the game on high/ultra except for one level: "The Silent Riddler". On that level, right after the first little village, I encounter a big grassy field. My framerate goes from 60+ to 24. I'm still messing with options to figure out why but no luck so far.

(On a side note, if anyone does happen to know a fix for this I'd be most appreciative!)

What makes the game most laggy is its shadows. Even my GTX 560 can't handle them. The game is just terribly optimized. What's irritating me more is that the developers have done nothing to fix it. SSHD runs better with higher settings than SS3.

i reccomanded to disable shadow antialiasing for eliminate the slowdown near grass area.
Imho, it's the only thing that can lower the frame rate on my pc. I have a hd5770 standard.
Obviously, don't enable super sampling aa.

the same thing gappens to me. i have gotten rid of show anti aliasing it still has low frame rate. I play with an ati 4200 hd (desktop version not a mobility one.)

I have done all of that and have the game running with the absolute lowest settins on. i have turned everything single thing off and it is still running slow. i have noticed the FPS seems to go down when ever i walk up to a very massive object (which is understandable) but there are areas like at the begginging of the silent riddler that realley stumps me (there is nothing there to make the FPS go down unless you count little undestroyable trees you can walk straight through)

I just a very good MSI 660 TF (NON TI) I can run smoothly most of games at steady 60 frames but SS3. Ho idea why. :) My CPU is an fair good i5-3450. Fresh SO install. Guess the game just have some hicups witht the engine.

There is nothing you can do to ever get a 4200 running the game at a decent speed as it is just not powerful enough to play the game. You need at least a mid-range graphics card with dedicated memory for this game (preferably a high-end graphics card with at least 1GB of memory).
