Coop progress is being wiped
I am moving this thread here from the old forums at the request of the developers:

A couple months ago I played coop with a friend. When I we got to level 6, we both had ticks in the boxes for levels 1 to 6. But after playing level 7 I lost all my progress. We continued to the end of the game. He got the achievement, I had one tick, for level 12.

Last week I started playing coin-op with another friend. We reached level 6 with our progress recording normally for the coin-op and coop achievement, but on completing level 7 I lost the tick for level 6.

At the time of writing my friend and I are on level 9 and I have ticks - in coin-op and coop - for levels 1 to 5... and for 12 from the previous playthrough. My friend's progress is recording normally.

Just to clarify, I got a tick for levels 6, 7 and 8, but they disappeared each time I closed the game and restarted.

I am not participating in beta, nor do I have any workshop mods installed. While playing level 8 I disabled Steam Cloud, but I still lost the tick for it when I launched yesterday to play level 9.

I hope I have described the problem sufficiently.

Let me know what system and software specs would be helpful to your diagnosis and I will provide what I can.

Thanks for a detailed explanation! Can you please post Sam3.log?

Also, have you played this game on multiple computers? Or only on one?

I played the game on my old PC when SS3 was released, but only in SP mode. That PC was wiped and gifted to a friend. It was about two months ago I played coop for the first time on my current PC.

I can't copy the Sam3.log here as there is a 1000-character limit. Do you have an email address I can send it to?

You can paste on pastebin and post link here

Hm. According to the log, you seem to have set up cheats to be enabled. You need to make sure cheats are disabled before you can get any achievement progress.

Is that perhaps what's the problem?

Would that be a console thing? The only thing I recall doing in the console is calling up a feature that gives your coordinates in a HUD. I did that so a guy could help me find a secret I was missing in the Jewel of the Nile DLC. How does one go about making it so cheats cannot be enabled?

Further to my previous comment... The command I used for the coordinates to be displayed is "hud_bShowCoords = 1".

And I've established that I played JOTN after the first coop playthrough, so the coop-progress-being-wiped problem arose before I used the console for the coordinate hud.
Do you have black box "Cheats enabled" in right upper corner during playing?
If so use cht_bEnableCheats=0

@Rasta, thanks for replying, but nope, no box in upper right corner and I can honestly say that I have never enabled it. Cheating has never appealed to me. :)

Incidentally, I have recently completed levels 1 and 2 without sprinting, reloading, aiming, and although I got the ticks for 'Old School', they too have been removed on shutdown and restarting. So it's not just my coop progress being wiped.

And yet I still have ticks in the boxes for levels 1 to 5 and 12 in coop and 1 to 5 in coin-op. Those, for the moment at least, seem to be safe.

Incidentally, how can I get rid of that coordinates hud? I thought hud_bShowCoords = 0 would disable it but it hasn't.

I wish I could edit my posts! Oh well. Update: I have removed the coordinates HUD and will, hopefully, be playing SS3 in coin-op this evening. If there is any change in achievement tracking behaviour I'll let you guys know - assuming my coop partner and I can get through Level 9. My most feared level, this. :)

Well, this line in your log:

18:56:09 INF: Using cheats will invalidate your score for this level and achievements won't be awarded for the remainder of the game.

Indicates that cheats are enabled when you start up the game. Could it be that you've modified some of the configuration files?
Inspiral May 2, 2013 @ 1:12am
Hand on heart, I have not touched the configuration files. I don't know where they are. I wouldn't know how to start tweaking them. It's all rather strange. Well, it is to me anyway.

Unfortunately neither my coop partner nor I have had the time to play SS3 for the past two days, so I haven't been able to test if removing the coords HUD has done the trick.

Update. To be on the safe side, I entered cht_bEnableCheats=0 before playing level 9 in coin-op. I completed level 9 and I got ticks for that level in coin-op and coop. On restarting the game a few hours later, to play level 10, both ticks had gone.

Will uninstalling and reinstalling help? Or do I need to delete specific files so they will be re-downlaoded? And why is my log indicating cheats have been enabled anyway, when I have done no such thing?

i had a similar problem but it only occurs on Level 3 in Co-op. I've beaten it twice and it still won't check the box, which sucks because every other level is checked off. i can't get the achievement because it won't check level 3 box! I too have never used cheats either and have no problem getting any other achievement, that i know of.

Can you please check this file on disk:

and see what are the properties and date on that file. Is the date/time on that file the time when you last played the game? Or is it older? Perhaps the file is read-only or somehow marked as not writable by the game.

Edit: btw, does that line about cheats still appear in your log?
