Serious Sam 3: BFE

Game won't start.
I installed SS3 last night, running my system on Win 7 x64. But the game won't start. The moddable version runs smoothly without any issues. But the normal version won't. The dialog box just says "Failed to start SS3 (Unknown error)" , and provides me with a link to go to support.steampowered.com site. I cannot post any log files here, since no log were generated. The game fails while preparing for launch. What to do? I have already verified game cache files, and opted for public beta as well.

I am reinstalling the game files. Deleted everything related to SS3 from my system. Let's see how this pans out. Will post my results here. Let's stick together and find a solution. Please keep me posted if you stumble on to something. Thanks.

I tried reinstalling, and stuff... actually my error is that Steam cannot complete the install as it can't connect to server... i think mine is slightly different

I guess. I have not been able to locate any other similar incident anywhere on the net. It seems to be unique to my case. People are reporting errors related to either some files missing or disconnection to some server (as in your case), but I am not encountering any of that. Are you able to run the moddable version without problems as well? Irritating part is that game launch terminates at a point where even log file is not created. So, I can't even tell anyone what the hell is going wrong. I am only hoping that the launch failure was due to bad installation, which should be corrected now. Crossing my fingers.

Nope. Nothing worked. Gonna contact Steam support now. If anyone has any idea about this issue, please ease my pain. Thanks.

The game definitely works on Win7 x64. That's what developed it on.

If it cannot install or fails to run (i.e if the process never even appears on the Task Manager), then it means that there is something creating problems for Steam client. It could be that it's caches were damaged (you can clean those with this procedure: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638 ), or it could be that there's an antivirus or similar that interferes with installation.

Tried cleaning game cache in the Steam folder too. I am pretty sure the game runs smoothly on Win 7 x64. I have no doubts in that respect. It's quite strange though the way the game is behaving.

It's not that it is behaving - it is not being launched by Steam at all - because it is not installed properly.

Yeah... that's what I wanted to say. I re-installed the entire game once already and verified the game cache files as well as the signature certificate in the exe of the game. Everything is alright. Yet...

My case is similar I cannot start the game. It starts the first time setup as steam normally does and tries to install Direct X fotr first time launch, but it does not complete and gives a Fatal Error: Unable to set display mode. I have reported this issue to the developer and they sayd they forwarded my problem to Croteam, they will get back to me as soon as they have a solution. Lets wait and see what will they come up with. Will keep you guys posted if any solution arise.
