CANNOT PLAY THIS DAMN GAME
Okay, first I just get the "preparing to launch" window that pops up whenever you start a Steam game.... then it never starts.

I try running the game from the Steam folder (steam/steamapps/common/supermeatboy) and I get an error saying "Steam_api.dll can't be found" or something to that extent.

So I google this and find the file. I download it and put it into the Meat Boy Steam folder.

I go launch the game....

Woo! Black screen! Oh ♥♥♥♥... "Could not create graphics device".

So I google this, find this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2736681
I wait to try it and just start the game again.

Hey, I can actually get into the game.

So now i'm playing a Rapture level (8 to be exact) and I get to the end and jump on Pinkie...

AND THE GAME FREEZES (music is still playing though). I alt+tab out and I see something that says "creating mini-dump, sending to Team Meat". So i'm like ♥♥♥♥. I still haven't tried the thread's solution yet, but I checked the Meat boy folder and i've got a file from today saying called "supermeatboy_1755290_crash_2013_6_18T19_10_50C0.mdmp

I WANNA PLAY THIS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GAME AND FINALLY FINISH IT... BUT I MOTHER♥♥♥♥ING CAN'T!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I just tried re-installing it but that doesn't seem to help - I still get the "Could not create graphics device" error.

Launched it for a second time after the re-installation and it seems to be running fine until I complete a level... then i get the "creating mini-dump, sending to Team Meat" error thing

I reviewed the specs as stated on your profile page and compared them to the store page ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/40800 ). Your OS (some flavor of Windows) is not specified. Hope its XP, Vista or 7. Odd the specs don't mention 8 as most games have funny little issues with it.

I assume that Nvidia is fairly new. Unforunately thats not my area of expertise.

Another spec not given by you is your DirectX version. XP and later are happy with 9.0c.

You have a gainormous hard drive... but how full is it? How much free space?

So your hardware seems adequate. Have you tried uninstalling old games? Adjusting the pagefile size yourself? Disabling system services you don't need (Like the wireless and bluetooth stuff if you're using a wired connection)?

How about security: Windows Updates... you need them ALL. Keep going until you can get no more. Antivirus updated and can do a FULL EVERYTHING scan, not just a quick scan. Turn off system services that are... on by default... (Take a good look at the Windows Remote Registry service... it "could" be turned on...). Also turn off sharing if you're concerned about people having access when they shouldn't (easy enough to turn back on when you need it again)

If you have trouble with any of that hunt down an official nerd and get them to optimize your system. If you purchased a pre-built then there's all kinds of junk programs on your system.

One other thing... take a good hard look at the Processes tab on the Windows Taskmanager. I've gotten my Vista down to 45 processes. I bet you have over 170 all running at the same time. Although your machine would seem fast enough its really running a lot of garbage. However if you did the install yourself then you probably know exactly where things went wrong.

Super Meat Boy doesn't have very extreme system requirements. If you can run other things properly then try validating the steam game cache files and pray it works.

Good luck.

I just started up the game (it started in windowed mode but I changed that) and I could play the game normally. I have no clue what's happening. If I get the same problems though, i'll try what you said.

Thanks alot for this reply. I have Windows 7 with 580 GB free. I believe I have DirectX 11, since I can enable that games with that option.

I disabled the wireless on the computer (i have a wired connection) and I have Avast for my antivirus. I've uninstalled most pre-loaded programs (I bought this custom-configured from HP).

I tend to have 100-105 processes going, but I think I can cut down on a few.
