Mac Users: Super Meat Boy + USB Controller Remix (feat. Binding of Isaac)
Having never played the game before I created a thread on this forum to generate discussion regarding game control input.

I have a controller, but I personally prefer using the keyboard. I find it to be more precise.

The best way to play? With a light heart. Don't take things too seriously and don't let yourself get frustrated. Enjoy the humor and the comical graphic design / game design. Just have fun.

Great advice, but keyboard's really take it out of my hands. Especially since I type so much, and also play guitar. If I was a massage therapist or something I'd never play video games. I'd probably ice skate instead.

Logitech Rumble Gamepad F510, best investment for gaming on a PC! There's also a wireless version, but I prefer the wired on (no batteries or connection problems)

It has support for both DirectX input and Direct Input (normal controller that works on every OS). Haven't tried it in direct input for SMB yet, but remapping to keyboard should work

The d-pad on the F510 is fantastic for SMB! Personally I wouldn't have lasted long on a keyboard :p

Thanks you for the recommendation! I'll look into this controller if I get more games I'd want to use a controller with. However, currently all the games I play with d-pads are "retro," so I stick with my usb NES and SNES controllers...

I don't know about controllers, though. I have played and completed the game using only keyboard but the game itself encourages the use of an xbox controller which a lot of people seem to prefer. After all, the game was made for Xbox. However, there's no official support for Xbox controller, or any controller for what I know, on Mac so you'd have to remap the controls using Keyboard Companion or such. Same goes for TBoI as far as I know since Flash doesn't have controller support at all.

I'm a little curios about how playing using SNES controller would work out. If you decide to give it a try, please post here how it turned out.

IDK, I like them, they work really well. At least they work really well with illegally downloaded NES and SNES and Sega roms (so I'm told, I do not engage in or endorse such illegal activities).

Unfortunately I have not yet gotten this to work for Binding Of Isaac or Super Meat Boy. The Binding Of Isaac's options menu says "Gamepad? use JoyToKey (google it!)" UNFORTUNATELY this program is not available for OSX, and I have had no luck finding an alternative.

So my new question is what do mac users do? What do we use? There is no alternative control method recommended for Super Meat Boy and I know I'm going to burn my retinas out playing this game, do I have to ruin the tendons in my hands as well?

It is my utmost desire to play these games with a d-pad, but google and CNet have not been able to help me. What does this forum recommend that I try?

I owned an Xbox controller for a short period of time last summer, and I used GamePad Companion to remap controls. I had some trouble getting it to work, though, but I think the problem was more due to having to use third party drivers to make the controller respond in the first place. GamePad Companion costs 6,99 euros in Appstore, and I wouldn't recommend it because all the problems I had with it. Could work with another controller, though.Who knows.

I did a quick google search out of curiosity and came across an open-source program called Enjoy. Have you given it a try? http://abstractable.net/enjoy/

Not yet. For now, i'm playing this game through bootcamp, and it's the best solution i've find so far (but it really sucks).
I love this game, but it's so sad they didn't want to fix that damn bug.

I tried the Logitech F510 in DirectInput for SMB and it worked perfectly. Just the same as a Xbox 360 controller! Props to Team Meat there :)

I'd have to recommend a purchase of a "real" controller like that. All the games are pre-mapped for modern controllers, and the game gives you instruction based on the actual layout (like, "Press A to jump" rather than "Press Joystick 4 to jump").

EDIT: It's also works in DirectInput mode on MacOS. Countless reviews and forum posts confirms this.

Yeah but the only games I'll be playing with it are Cavestory and Super Meat Boy... Why pay for a controller that costs 6 times the amount I paid for the game?

I know its probably nice but I'll get very little use out of it.

If there was a good app that converted usb input to qwerty input I'd be in good shape.

Understand! I just thought I'd mentioned it, since this seems to be a general thread about MacOS, SMB, and gamepad support :)
