What's the best way to play?
Traded three crafted tf2 weapons for Super Meat Boy. :D

I'm super stoked to play this but also sort of nervous because I've heard its extremely frustrating. Any suggestions on the best way to play this on a Macbook Pro? What's your favorite controller? Is a USB clone of an SNES controller a good option?

I've got The Binding of Isaac, and I cannot use my USB controllers with it since the recommended controller plugin does not work for Mac. This definitely put me off of that game, since 2 handed 4 way controls on my laptop keyboard felt like it was going to give me carpel tunnel syndrome. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Fear not, Super Meat Boy is not a frustrating game as long as you pay attention to what you're doing and try to learn from your mistakes. Some levels are incredibly difficult but I can't even describe how good it feels once you succeed. It's hours of fun if you're up for a challenge. You don't even need to beat all the leves, or even see the most challengin ones, in order to complete the game so there's no reason to be nervous. Or maybe just a little. ;)

I don't know about controllers, though. I have played and completed the game using only keyboard but the game itself encourages the use of an xbox controller which a lot of people seem to prefer. After all, the game was made for Xbox. However, there's no official support for Xbox controller, or any controller for what I know, on Mac so you'd have to remap the controls using Keyboard Companion or such. Same goes for TBoI as far as I know since Flash doesn't have controller support at all.

I'm a little curios about how playing using SNES controller would work out. If you decide to give it a try, please post here how it turned out.

I have a controller, but I personally prefer using the keyboard. I find it to be more precise.

The best way to play? With a light heart. Don't take things too seriously and don't let yourself get frustrated. Enjoy the humor and the comical graphic design / game design. Just have fun.

Logitech Rumble Gamepad F510, best investment for gaming on a PC! There's also a wireless version, but I prefer the wired on (no batteries or connection problems)

It has support for both DirectX input and Direct Input (normal controller that works on every OS). Haven't tried it in direct input for SMB yet, but remapping to keyboard should work

The d-pad on the F510 is fantastic for SMB! Personally I wouldn't have lasted long on a keyboard :p

i'm playing through with a 360 controller and having a grand ol' time.

best part to help you not get frustrated: treat each level as a puzzle first and a platformer second. your first few play-throughs of each level should be trying to figure out the "rhythm" and "pattern" of the level, so you know when and where you need to jump to get that A+ in time. after you've figured out how the level works, then you can practice your mechanics. this game is designed very well, and if you're being continuously killed by the same obstacle it's probably because your jump/movement pattern is out of sync with the level. if you approach each stage from a puzzle perspective first, you can hammer out a lot of those kinks so when it comes time to get the mechanics of the level navigation down, you won't have as much of an uphill battle.

also, just remember that chain dying is a part of the game, and don't let it get you down like it might in other games. the game KNOWS you will die many times; that's why respawn and level reset are nearly instantaneous.

Couldn't have said it better! Dying is just a part of the fun :)

The 360 controller is obviously brilliant for SMB, afaik it was developed for that controller (Get the movie! 75% off right now). The only problem though, is Microsofts love of propitiatory solutions, so it wont work on MacOS (afaik), which is why I hate it :P

Also, I find the d-pad of the F510 to be much better for classic platformers!

The best way to play is to, when you die, see what you did wrong and try to correct it (which will take a few lives). Try not to rage quit. I have been using a keyboard, though I suspect a gamepad would be better as it was designed for one :-). Also, if you are trying to get all the bandages, try to unlock the all of the warp zone characters first, as they make it much easier to get the bandages. Also, try to not get too annoyed at the warp zones, and be patient with them. Remember, there are two bandages in each (as long as it's not a character one), and the bandages are usually obvious as to their whereabouts. Good Luck!
This is a very long username 2013 01 月 7 @ 5:12下午
Agree with everyone else about the F510, i had no chance of beating C.H.A.D. until i got that. Of course that was the only one i tried so u could test other ones from people you know who have them. Also, a good strategy is just forget you died when you respawn since it's pretty instant.
