Won't launch
"Preparing to launch Super Meat Boy" window appears for a second and closes. If I click "Play" again quickly, I get the error message "Failed to start game (app already running)". Tried reinstalling, tried deleting "appcache" folder and restarting, tried windowed mode and dev mode. no different results. I have limited computer skills so please explain simply, thanks for your help!

Angurn Nov 5, 2013 @ 6:10pm
I don't know if this will help but try

Right click the game in Steam and hit properties, then hit Local Files and then click Verify Integrity of Game Files

or

right click game in steam &; properties & set launch options
Type in -windowed

also state the windows(os) version you are using so others may help you more and check to make sure your drivers are up to date.

I'm on Windows XP. I did try verifying the files, it came back all good. Also I did try -windowed, as I said, and -devmode. Thank you, got any other ideas?

Thank you Angurn, but it still does not work. It's not a fatal error in windowed mode but a problem encountered..... My OS version is WINDOWS XP SP3.

Try launching directly from the install folder "~Steam\steamapps\common\super meat boy" find the .exe maybe you will get an actual error instead of a force close. Quickest way there is right click the game in your steam folder choose local files>browse local files.

Thank you Angurn. I've tried all the method but it shows "Fatal Error An error has occured and a mini-dump (hehe) has been sent to Team Meat. We'll fix this ASAP. Sorry about this." Is there any Team Meat Member here helping?

This looks helpful, I found the .exe and it gave me the error "unable to locate component", "This application failed to start because XINPUT9_1_0.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
Re-installing was pretty obvious to me, I did that multiple times. What do you think?

I freakin' Googled it! Found that .dll, installed it, now the "preparing to launch SMB" window comes up but nothing happens, it just stays there. If I launch it straight from the .exe it launches but kinda freaks out, a small blank window come up and then turns into a big blank window and then the whole screen goes black. then I hear an error message noise, when I ctrl+alt+delete and the screen comes back it gives me the "Fatal Error An error has occured and a mini-dump (hehe) has been sent to Team Meat. We'll fix this ASAP. Sorry about this." message.

Seems we are stuck at the same spot. It would be nice if we could get some help, since the error message we're getting is totally ambiguous, and sounds to me like, 'screw you, you'll never play this game that you paid for.'

Angurn has been a big help to me, not to discredit you. Thanks a bunch Angurn!

OK, I know the problem. It's old game but requires a better discrete graphic to run it. I can play it on my PC but encounter such error on my laptop. So I think it's a hardware problem.

Are you freaking kidding me. I don't have another computer. I just bought a game that will not work on my computer? That is bullcrap.

You can find that on the store page "Graphics: Graphics Card made within the last 4 years (Pixel Shader 3.0, Vertex Shader 3.0) ' you'd better check it whether your graphics card support these somewhat shader.
OneWheelLunatic Nov 6, 2013 @ 7:23pm
Yep, my card doesn't have vertex shader at all. It's got pixel shader 3, but no vertex shader. Who do I talk to about getting my money back? I'm not spending money on this computer right now, so I won't be able to play the game. Damn that's stupid.

You can contact with the Steam Support for refunds, but as I know it take a long time for the reply and sometimes you can't get refunds. So, good luck.
