Game closes immediately after launching...
Running under Windows 8 - game immediately stops. No splash screens come up, no 'this application has crashed', no nothing. Just a silent crash to desktop.

I've had issues with this game before, but it used to get further than this! I used to get to the starting menu screen at least.

Come on folks, if you're selling it - you should still be keeping it running!

worked fine for me on windows 8. with latest amd drivers, still works fine for me on windows 8.1. i think your issue is a video driver problem in my opinion

Well yes, I read that posting too - and no, it did no good.

Running an NVidia GTX 765M with the 331.65 driver - which has PhysX 09.13.0725 - the same I've been using for a month or so now, for what it's worth.

Why do you think it's a video driver problem? Is that based on anything other than supposition?

I maintain, why does every other graphics intensive game I own run fine under this configuration, and this one fail to get off the ground? Sounds more like cut corners in QA to me...

I had the same problem and what worked for me:

1. Uninstall nVidia PhysX in control panel.
2. Download PhysX driver from here:
3. Install it, should work now.

Thank you livarion, that did the trick for me!

When you uninstalled physX and installed the new version did you reset your pc both times?

i did so. uninstalled physix via control panel, then restart. new version installed, again restart. then risen2 works perfect

What do you mean new version installed? You mean installing the version recommended above in this thread. Correct?

Anyway uninstalled the most current physX driver and now get an error saying the game is looking for a physX driver to run the game so a step in the right direction. This game clearly uses physX. Now just to find a physX driver that will work with my system.

Btw just to provide more info. I am using the latest beta Nvidia driver. Has anyone gotten the game to work using those plus the physX driver fix?

Eh back to what I tried ..

After uninstalling the newest physX driver from Nvidia I reset the pc and I then installed the one recommended by people in various threads here and reset my pc. When it loaded up Windows finally I logged onto Steam and tried to run the game and once again it didn't run. It shows a logo on load up like it is starting to run but then just closes the program.

Also note I am using Windows 7 64 bit. Anyone get this running on a 64 bit OS?

I had the same problem on 8.1. Go to Steam\SteamApps\common\Risen 2\system Right click on Risen2.exe > Propierties > Compability tab > Run this program in Compatibility mode for > Windows 7. Accept. Run Risen 2.

Same thing for me, a few games like Borderlands and Risen 2 did not start anymore after I bought a new Nvidia card to replace my old ATI HD4870. After uninstalling Physx and let Borderlands do the Physx install all my games work again, including Risen 2

Here's what worked for me.

I deleted physx and reinstalled. The game no longer crashed immediately and went to the "Risen 2" splash screen for a few seconds and then crashed. Then I went into the "redist" folder for Risen 2 (SteamApps/common/Risen2/redist) and inside was a DirectX, Physx, and VCR folder. I went into each folder and clicked on the installers. Physx won't install since it's an older version. So what you have to do is delete physx again, install the older physx through the physx folder inside the redist folder, then reinstall the newer physx through the Nvidia website. After you do that restart your computer and Risen 2 should start.

Verify the game cache integrity.
