So
I bought both Risen 1 and 2 prior to the Deepsilver Humble Bundle. I just recently had some time to play the 1st one and overall, I enjoyed it (aside from the sudden, ♥♥♥♥ ending). So the following day, I decided to play Risen 2. At first I really loved how well the whole pirate thing fit into the game. Then, after playing for a few hours. I realized I can't kill NPC's and loot them. Normally, this wouldn't be a big deal, but in a game about being a pirate, this seems a little stupid. Then, upon learning to pickpocket, I noticed I no longer have the cool conversations or the option to pick a specific item. Instead, my character stands 2 feet in front of them while blatently saying "Shiney!" as if that's not obvious enough. Anyways, I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Can I not finish NPC's off or loot them anymore? I'm talking standard NPC, not hostile ones. I'm thinking this is too obvious a ♥♥♥♥ up and I must be doing something wrong.

They took a big Step back from Risen 1 to 2. Thats sad to see, the game had so much potencial..

i dunno, i can't say i like the pickpocketing better but in risen 1 that pickpocket system was prety simplistic too...yeah you get a humorous dialogue option and then you just pick what you want to steal, automatic success. if your skill is not high enough it doesn't even let you attempt it...thats sort of "hand-holding" IMO for a game that doesn't "hold your hand"
i was also diappointed when i trained pickpocketing 3 and went back to all the top tier npcs to steal what they had and came out of it with 300 gold and 10 pieces of raw meat and a handful of arrows after spending 500 gold and 5 learning points.

so...was the sytem in risen better? i dunno.
i keep seeing people saying risen 1 was better and i played through and beat it and got one of the worst endings ever...it didn't even say "conglaturation" just a 10 second cut scene tht made no sense and the credits roll.

my favorite part of the risen games is exploring the island and clearing the monsters and the monsters in risen 2 are much more creative than the standard default boars, wolves and butterflies in risen 1.

and turtling behind a shield never seemed very piratey to me to begin with. the sword fighting while hard to get used to, is much more stylized in this game, especially the long drawn our parry riposte duels with npcs.

risen 2 sort of holds your hand in the beginning too, with patty, she is so OP compared to you at first. i just stand behind her and let her generate all the glory for me
