Just had my Portal save wiped because of the Steam cloud
I let a friend play her copy of Portal on her account on my computer. Long story short, my 100% save file is now gone ( my profile is public, feel free to verify for your own ), overwritten with her save file because Steam cloud was evidently programmed during Amateur night at the ♥♥♥♥♥ Pub.

Is there anything I can do, or is my save lost forever?

This is really upsetting me. I seriously cannot believe Steam cloud doesn't save profiles to individual user folders.

And just to taunt me or something, my Portal main menu has the cake background, even though she hasn't even beaten Portal yet.

Sorry to hear that. Rather than Steam Cloud, though, I suspect what was designed during Amateur night is the location in which Portal should store saved games. I just discovered that on my Windows XP machine, the SAVE folder is located in %ProgramFiles%\Steam\SteamApps\common\Portal\portal\, which is not user-specific. On my Mac, all of Steam itself gets installed to an OS-user-specific place, but within that, Portal still doesn't allow for multiple Steam users.
