Portal 2 is wayy better, as it has co-op and action fluids. Portal 1 was a whole new way to play games tho and I loved my experience with it.
If you're wondering which one to buy, get Portal 1. That way you have something to look forward to. Once you finish Portal 1 you're almost guaranteed to want to buy Portal 2. I didn't want Portal 1 to end and was thrilled when Portal 2 came out. You wouldn't want to start with Portal 2 and work backwards to Portal 1 since 2 is more complex and prettier than 1.
The end song "still alive" from Portal 1 IMO is one of, if not the best, video game songs ever.

Portal was just an experiment, a very excellent one though... Portal 2 is an actual game, so it's just much better :D

both, they might be challenging at first, so if you feel unsure, play 1 first, to get known of the story. i find 2 bit more challening, but challenges are what makes games good IMO. oh i see you came to conclusion already :D
