Help Needed (Potential Spoiler)

I'm on stage 18 and have just passed the companion cube and the room with many guns. Next, I enter a room wth a platform that I need to use to fling. However, I can't fit two portals on the platform, only one! In order for me to fling, I need that second portal on the platform.

Any help would be appreciated.

The very beginning of the level?

Be warned: Cheating in Portal is highly discouraged. It takes a lot of joy out of the game. With that said:

Go in the hallway before you reach the platform and place one portal. Then go outside and place another portal very high up. When you go in the first portal you will fall down onto the platform. Just place a portal there while you're falling and you'll be able to fling yourself across the room.

It is indeed a very intelligent puzzle.

I got past that part (only took me about 15 attempts), now I'm stuck on the 2nd highest platform, where it tells you to place two portals in certain spots --- the little white squares with black dots --- I place both portals in various positions on the same platform and I fling, but I never fling high enough to see the floor so I can place a portal there. Any tips to fling further?

Unfortunately, taking a screenshot is impossible without Fraps, which Windows 8 does not support; I'm at 2:57, actually. That walkthrough makes it look like breeze!

Okay, got that part down. Now I'm at the next to last platform, with the three black dots. There is the slanted platform straight ahead, but when I place a portal there and jump through, I just go headlong into the toxic water. Can't fly and twist to get to the end like it does in the walkthrough. I figured out that one thing to do is keep a (blue) portal on whatever higher platform I'm on and place an (orange) on at the ground level, jump through, and place another orange portal on the drop-down floor. However, at the point I'm on, I'm too high to reach the ground floor. See 3:05-3:08 in video. :)
