***SPOILERS*** READ IF YOU HAVE FINISHED THE GAME
The following discussion will contain spoilers.

Why is the game so short? It took me 3.1 hours to complete it. That's only 186 minutes. I did it over 3 days.
Okay, so I may have an advantage because I've clocked Portal 2 and I've clocked its co-op (with a friend), and also I haven't done any of the bonus levels, but I didn't use any cheats or walkthroughs when playing this one. I think I did really good at this game, but I'm not really a pro. I was really surprised when I got into the boss fight with Glados after such short time of playing this game.
Did anyone take SIGNIFICANTLY longer or shorter than 3.1 hours? Anyone know why the game was so short?

Because it's not full-lenght game. First Portal was made like a... sort of tech-demo of portal-gun, they wanted to use it in Half-Life. And then... BOOM, game of the year, huge succes, big suprise. So they made the sequel and it is regular.
If you know the Portal well, you can beat it in 40 minutes, but it is for free... work for me.

Yeah, I've got Half-Life 2. It's apparently the best PC Game ever, but I don't like it.

Yeah I see your point man, just completed it, it took me 2.4 hours. I have also completed Portal 2, both singelplayer and multiplayer missions before playing Portal 1.

Yeah, the beginning was the best, before you got the gun. It was so mysterious, arriving in City 17. Was it called that? Anyway, I really did enjoy that bit, but then it went downhill. I've just passed the boat level.

Pretty much this, it was just a demo of what the new engine can do and the concept test of the portal gun and physics. Took me a bit over an hour, close to two, to beat the first time. PB for inbounds is a bit over 16 minutes.

Just think of it as a demo prequel to Portal 2, also cake. I still enjoy the writing of Portal 1, nothing to prove, nothing to 1up like Portal 2 had to try to do; just pure cynical cake promises and testing.

I think that when Portal first came out people must have been sad about how short it was, so they made Portal 2 with a mush bigger storyline and plot twist. But does anyone know where to install the Portal Prelude and where?
YetiSwager 6 de jan às 18:20
Because that is a little more to Portal.

Yeah, portal is a very short game that you can complete in a couple hours. And i think partially the reason for that was that it didn't focus on the story, it focused on the portal guns, puzzles, and in the end you really didn't care about it anyways.

I mean really, the companion cube that everyone's remembers so well, along with "The cake is a lie" is two of the biggest things that people remember and talk about in the game, The companion cube was a cube you used to solve a single level, and the cake is a lie was just graffiti written on the wall several million times as you played through the game.

Portal is still a very fun game though given how creative it was at the time, and honestly i still like some parts of it even after playing Portal 2.

I loved the Portal games. I just hope they continue with it and make a third.

Yup. I agree. I love the turrets, and the gels.

I think Valve made the game so short just to see how it would turn out and how people would react to a title like portal.

indeed portal was short but fun nontheless! i hope they make a third installment

it's definitely worth the not even 10 bucks, even tho it's so "short".
at least there is some challenging bonus content, once you've beaten the game.

it might be considered "old" right now by some people, but the portal gun is still a genius, unique and fresh idea imo.

the original portal was an experiment and it just turned out pretty successful with it's innovative ideas, charm and humour.
even the credit rolls at the end is done entertaining.
