hl2.exe Has stopped working.......

When I try to launch Half-Life 2 or Portal... I get ^ that error msg as soon as the game launches up. The furthest I have been able to get into the program is by setting lauch options to "-windowed"... When I do that I hear about 2 seconds of the VALVe Head intro sound and image... then it says it's stopped working. (Also when I try to launch the map editor "Hammer" it does the same thing)

I'm about to pull my hair out trying to figure out what is going on with hl2.exe

I've tried everything...that I could find while Googling and browsing forums here...I typically don't have to make my own post, and can find a solution by just searching hard enough, but I'm at a loss here....

-dxlevel 80...81....90........
Verifying the cache files.... for Portal, HL2 and Garry's Mod.....I own TF2 but not installed
Reinstalling....
Running as administrator....
Running in windows 7 compatability mode....
Reinstalling drivers......
Updating Windows....
Updating MoBo....

Nvidia 760 4gb
Dual Monitors
SSD and HDD

Did you try all of the suggestions in the Steam Support page for this error:

Consider any background applications that may be causing conflicts.
Run msconfig to try disabling all startup items and non-MS services.
