Why do you walk so slow?
Normaly when there is a turret standing right infront of you You would run away from it but however in portal you move like a turtle why is that?

i know what you mean. when i want to get from one room to another you walk so slow like you have all the time in the world

Ha! tell that to link, he carrys a ball in chain in his bag, he can barely carry it then he just puts it in his bag POOF it disappears! he can walk normal!

well you could always "give item_suit" to enable sprinting

Ah i think i know why you walk so slow now.

Half-life 2 and Portal share the same engine along with its episode's. The reason why you walk so slow is because in the beginging of Half-life 2 you walk like a turtle to Valve wanted to give you a chance to look around the city and around you Depression, emotions, Sadness, Of the combine of what they did to a city Thats why your so slow in HL2 in the begining but however when you Equip the HEV suit you move a little faster and you can sprint (Press alt if you want to move slow again) Since portal and half life 2 share the same source engine Valve recycled the same thing So thats why you move so slow. To prove that HL2 and portal open the console and type npc_create npc_citizen Bam. HL2 citizen

Yeah I think it must be a creative move. That or they want more focus on portal use.

Maybe one of the details you should've observed is there's a turret that will shoot you.

This is probably to encourage active observation and portal usage.
I think they have balanced movement speed with chamber dimensions quite well.

probably, but I found myself spamming jump to move a little faster regardless

I can understand that when we are trying to complete achievements. But I still think the first playthrough should be done slowly and in depth.

nah, the designers intentionally did not put much detail into the environment to focus on making portals work well.

VALVe do all with detail. And nothing is made accidentaly. All have a reason in-game.
