Well, it should have been open world, but in the end, there are some regions in the game, and whenever you have completed the main story of the one region, another one opens.

Linear, there is no point even attempting to explore. A quest will take you there. You cannot progress out of areas until current are is complete.
Not a great game, but fairly good. Reminds me of the 1st Fable, with added sarcasm

Linear. Was a little dissapointed in this when it first came out. Was expecting something along the line of oh i dont know Gothic. But for what it is, I do have to agree with hilltopmonk, it is pretty good.

Same as Risen 2, linear as f* and it's a cr* game anyway. But still, it's overwhelmingly better than Risen 2.

Open world has pros and cons,Arcania is Linear but it sure is fun Linear, rather not wander aimlessly.
Open World in Fallout 3 worked well for me, but works against me in Elder Scrolls Oblivion, even though I really like Oblivions world.

This feels more Action/RPG,simple to get into, great graphics, combats fun.

it's certainly a unique game, it's not really linear and then again not open world, the world IS open, and you can go backwards and forwards as you please,i felt the world was huge, as big as skyrim (the game in some ways is better imho) drop a dx9 fxaa injector into the main folder for anti-alias, if you love huge open worlds you will love this game, the huge treehouse in tooshoo was epic, loved it, the game has just about every type of terrain, tropical jungle and beaches, to snowy mountains, etc etc, and a night / day cycle. worth a shot at the price it's going for.
