Worst Game ever
This Game has destroyed all of my illusions which where build up by Gothic 1-3. I think they should just forget Arcania and make a Gothic 4 :( I am dissapointed

I totally agree, Gothic 1 & 2 were awesome, Gothic 3 was a bug nightmare but it had this huge potential and amasing world, which the community patches so wonderfully brought forward, but this is a piece of crap

Thank You very much, at this point I'd like to thank the Community for patching and I'd like to say that Arcania has nothing of fascination of the foreign Gothic titles

I disagree - it surely is not the worst game ever, it just is the worst game related to the gothic universe (though I did not play G3 Addon ;-)) . It's pretty solid for casual gamers, those would chose Arcania over Gothic 1, 2 or 3 anytime because of playability.

I'd agree, that most likely there isn't anyone who loves Gothic and likes this one, but Arcania is not a terrible game (not a very good one either) - it just is no "Gothic" whatsoever. Simply an average RPG with a lot of expectations, which it could not (and not even close!) live up to. Risen was waaaaaay better.
Game was pretty, too easy and had way too many crafting items I never used. If you pretend it's not a Gothic game (which I did up front), you can have fun in it for about 20-30 hours and be done with it.

Same here. I loved The older Gothic games. I also enjoyed this one but as a completly other genre.

Never really got into Gothic or it's series but playing Arcania it was pretty good until the end. I treated it as an adventure where I played through for the beautiful scenery and locations. Voice acting and some of the character's faces were underwhelming but overall the game was definitely worth playing and the plot was good enough for me to get pissed off at the ending and how randomly thrown in everything was.

Again, it was good but don't expect any form of a proper ending at all. The ending was pretty much broken, thrown together and completely lackluster but up until that point it was visually stunning, especially for it's time. Combat wasn't bad either.

Limited and limiting Action-Adventure. Not an RPG at all.
The worst aspect is the NPCs: they have no life cycle (don't sleep at night etc.), don't move from their location, you cannot even hit them (!), you can steal before their eyes, kill their chickens and they won't even stare at you, etc.
No consistent NPCs = no RPG.

Is Steam version updated to latest available patches for this game? I can't find installed version number...

This game so far has the atmosphere of Oblivion,I'm refering to the graphics and over all feel, a bit more linear but thats ok wandering about too much gets tediouse.

I play a session I actually accomplish things and dont have to worry about how much weight I'm carrying,I enjoy night/day cycles, rain, lightening thunder its all cool.

I never played the earlier Gothic games, tried the demo and decided its not for me,Not being Jaded with expectations, as a stand alone RPG I'm finding Arcania addicting and entertaining and not a tediouse time pit.
I realize the expectations of Gothic fans. But If considered unrelated and a light RPG thats easy to get into, Its been well worth my time.

It even inspired me to reinstall Oblivion (which I'm still working on) because I love the atmosphere of that game....If only I didnt have to check how much crap I need to get rid of so I can keep a gameing rythme rather than held up fiddling with inventory to lighten my load.

Well, Piranha Bytes have nothing to do with Arcania, and the company that made it no longer exists (because no one bought this). So it's not really a part of Gothic at all. But since PB have the rights again, maybe we will see a true Gothic 4.
I totally agree!!!!

For me personally, I found Gothic 1, 2, 3 and all the Risen games to have horrible controls and combat... I don't understand why people love them so much?

The only things I hated about Arcania was the voice acting, the character faces of some NPCs and the ending.

Elder scrolls game like skyrim is better. I use to play gothic though.

I think people need smart and compelling games, not this stupid "wannabe" A-RPG. One of the first missions, a farm.man gets in your way and, to be able to go further, you must kill some giants rats for him, to be allowed to pass his farm.. LOL...enough said. (sorry the english)

I played this after havng finished Skyrim(and exansions) for like the 6th time, not that I thought it would be anywhere close given the age, but it is not as good as gothic 3 either, and oblivion leaves it standing (wont even mention how superioir morrowind is). Would not say it was the worst game ever, no where close to that, as I did finish it (the ending was such a let down).
