Demo won't even start

I don't know if this will help, but all my drivers were already up-to-date, I tried reinstalling PhysX and rebooting, and still no-go.

I set the sound sample rate (Control Panel, Sound, Speakers, Properties) to 24 bit, 48000 Hz (it was higher), and now the demo runs.

Windows 8 x64.
