It used gamespy, there were servers available right up to it shutting down. Nowadays only direct-IP connections would work, unless someone's found a way to do gamespy master server emulation or something.

We could use Tunngle, for lan play over the internet.

I'm up for a match or two.

Did you guys ever get it to work over Tunngle? Just curious...is anyone still playing online? I kind of doubt it, but it was just released on the Humble Bundle, so some people may be interested. I'd just like to know if it is still an option. You can tell it's a bit outdated, but it's a pretty cool game.

I found this link on Steam about using a VPN LAN Networking program (Hamachi) to run a network to play coop in another game. The game, however, ran Gamespy prior to Gamespy shutting down just like Aquanox did. I imagine Hamachi would work for this too, but it would take someone with the skill to use it in order to set up a coop game. I installed the software, but haven't created any networks since I'm not sure how to use it. Here is the link: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=249611932. Hope this helps.

I can't run Hamachi. It interferes with other network settings on my system. It screws up my connection and I lose Internet access.

I couldn't get Tunngle to work either. It sticks in Finalizing stage and won't go any further. If I click cancel, it logs me in but doesn't give me access to any networks. I know I forwarded the port correctly because I used software to test it suggested by Tunggle. Not sure what to do.

Hey...if anyone wants to give this game a try with Hamachi look me up. I managed to figure out a trick to get Hamachi to run. It wasn't running because I run more than one VPN program on my system, but by disabling Hamachi my other VPN works, and reenabling Hamachi's VPN Adapter then Hamachi works, so I'd like to try LAN over web to see if it works with Aquanox and some other games. Admittedly I'm not the best gamer, but I make an easy target, so if you're looking to just fool around in game I'd like to try.

Ignore my last message. I removed Hamachi. I did it because there was no way to set up Hamachi access without giving people I don't know access to my complete network. I consider that to be a serious security risk, so decided not to use it.

Hey everyone, I managed to get in contact with DigitalTemerity and get a game going!

We were having trouble with Hamachi/Tunngle but I got Aquanox running through my server so he could directly connect.

It also turns out that Steam automatically gives everyone the same CD Key, but to play multiplayer everyone needs a unique one

Fortunately I had saved my original Aquanox box! We were then able to play fairly well, considering that I am on a wireless connection and the game does not have very good netcode. (the devs probably just threw in multiplayer at the last minute)

I found some more CD Keys online so I should be able to host more than one person now. If anyone else wants to play hit me up and I'll get the server running.

Yea Zeph3r next time your online let me know and we'll face off again. I learned some great battle tactics playing with you. It was great fun. Thanks for providing the server. By the way, I have Tunngle working now. I imagine we would still have the problem of duplicate CD keys. Think we should put in a support ticket to Steam and see if there is any way they can fix it?

I'm on a new computer and network so I don't really want to go through the hassle of setting up Tunngle on it. But I can host and people can direct connect to me if they want to play. It's not like the multiplayer is that great anyway . . .

True. It wasn't anything fantastic, but it was great to get it working, and it shows that other games that connect through LAN will work.
