Accessing the Testing Branch (King Pin)
Greetings,

From time to time, we'll be using the our testing branch to push out new updates before we push them out onto the main branch on Steam. These updates are bleeding edge fresh from the build machine. Due to the nature of these builds there's a strong possibility that bugs and glitches will be running wild.

Now, if you're a fearless bug hunter, you'll be able to get access to this testing branch by following the steps below. However, if bugs are not your thing we suggest that you remain on the main branch for a more solid experience.

Accessing the Test branch

Let's get to it! Follow these simple step and you'll have access to the developer branch in no time.
  • Open your Steam Client
  • Find Atom Universe and right click on it
  • Find 'Properties' in the drop down menu and click on it
  • A new window will pop open and you should be able to see the 'BETAS' tab, click on it.
  • Enter the following code in the textbox - Atom20160320
  • Select the 'king pin' option from the drop down menu
  • Allow Steam to update Atom Universe
After these steps, you'll be able to explore the latest build.

We hope you all have a great weekend and happy bug hunting!

These look like the same steps we used to switch from the Alpha version we were testing to the Early Access version. I am assuming those who have executed these steps in the past to do that which I believe was essentially switching from the "main branch" of code for the Alpha to the "testing branch" of code of the Early Access version, can now just go back in and change the drop down back to "king pin".

UPDATE: I got this to work, but encountered a few issues as well as noticed a few things since my last comment that I wanted to point out. It seems that the access code that needed to be entered is different from the last one we used to switch between the Alpha and Early Access version. The new access code is "Atom" + the date patch Patch 0.1.4.4104 was released in yyyymmdd format, i.e. "20160320". So I entered that and verified it and saw that "king pin" was already selected in the drop down. However, no download was triggered. When I started the game up, I noticed I was still on the previous version, 0.1.3.4101. So I quit the game and went back into the "Beta" screen and had to select a different option and then changed it back to "king pin" again to see if that would trigger the download. That didn't work either. I had to save a different option besides "king pin" and then go back in and then change my selection to "king pin" and then save again before I saw a new download for the game get queued up. I also noticed a new option in the drop down list that I didn't notice before, "pre_alpha". I am assuming that is for the "Alpha" version which is only available to backers while opting out of all betas takes you back to 0.1.3.4101.

Yes, these steps are exactly the same as when we first pushed the Arcade Plaza to Steam and our Kickstarter backers where able to try it out first. The only difference is that the password has changed.

Yes, any of the KS backers wanting to use the testing branch will need to use the newer password in order to unlock it. Otherwise the update won't download. It's good to know that you need to swap between and save between the different branches in order to download the latest update. We'll keep that in mind for any future updates. :)

P.S. when replying to a topic and no one has responded after you, could you edit your last post to include any additional content? Otherwise, it can get classed as bumping.

Btw, other people also had the same issue getting the "kingpin" option to trigger a new download. Others said they also had to switch back and forth until finally a download was queued too. So is this somehting that can be addressed in future updates so you don't have to do that or is that just the way Steam works?

What about the "pre_alpha" option in the drop-down? I didn't remember seeing that until Sunday. Is my assumption for what that is for correct or is it for something else?

It's the way how Steam works, but we'll be able to prevent this from happening again in the future by keeping the password the same.

We've took it down now, it was a test on our end. :)

I had this happen as well with the latest AU build but I also frequently have the same issue with workshop content. I just exit out of Steam completely and upon restarting it always triggers new downloads for me. So if it happens again, instead of swapping back and forth, try restarting first and see if that works for you.

I'm having trouble accessing the new patch, 0.1.6.4101. When I go to the "Beta" tab under the game's properties, I see that the "pre_alpha" option is gone which is cool since Dave said that was just a test. But I couldn't figure out a way to trigger a new download, including the way I tried before as well as bestscreenname's suggstion for restarting the Steam client. I started up the game to see if it would somehow be on a new version already and saw that the version number reads 0.1.5.4101 wihtout me having downloaded anything. When I tried to access the Arcade Plaza, nothing happens. I also noticed that the count of current users in the Arcade Plaza isn't displayed but maybe it's because it is truly down.

UPDATE: I was talking to David earlier today and he informed me that they got this working this morning. Also there is a new patch 0.1.7.4101 anyways so I went directly to that version. Also, it seems I didnt' have to do anything with the Beta tab now that I had already entered the previous access code whilch Dave previously mentioned wasn't going to be changing anymore, that was already validated and I had the "kingpin" option already selected. So I just launched the game and noticed taht I was running the latest patch version 0.1.7.4101. I see there is an option on the "Update" tab to "always keep the game up to date" which is selected for me and so maybe that is why I didn't have to do anything. I mean I didn't even see a download queued. Maybe there was one and I didn't see it because of that option I just mentioned or these latest fixes are server side and didn't require a new client update. Either way, everything is working now so that's great! :)
