Is there any way to play this game at a high resolution without it crashing? I've tried dgvoodoo but no luck

I believe this happened to me some years ago. I remember this is what me quit last time. I've been playing for 3 weeks and this just happened (again). After the cutscene coming out of the goblin cave, I'm able to clear the beach, but then, when I get somehow deep in the woods, the map doesn't load correctly. Some crates weren't apparent, doors and npc werent there but I could interact. I decided to try to save the game but it just stalled. After like two minutes I quit the program and as I suspected it did...

Do the enemies scale their levels to the player? I'm getting punished no matter which area I'm in and I never feel my gains. I heard there is scaling in MP, so I'm wondering... tysm!

I tried to use vortex mod manager to add some mods but it says the game version is incorrect. i found a patch online but it wont work. it just keeps saying failed. is there a way to update this game?

I love this game mostly because it's combat oriented with a party of 4 without a ton of diologue.. Where can I find a game like that? Seems like a lot of these party type games think that I need to have conversations with all these stupid NPCs and they think that is 'fun'.. That is not fun to me. Dungeon Siege is fun to me....
