A question about Hardcore.
Hello everyone,

I saw Hardcore mentioned several times in the discussions, but I'm not quite sure what it exactly means in this game.

  • The highest difficulty setting, such as Easy, Normal, Hard, Hardcore?
  • Permadeath, like in Dungeons of Dredmor and The Binding of Isaac?
  • Or a combination thereof?

Thanks in advance; I'm counting on you guys!

No, hardcore is not the standard "lose your character on death" feature in Dungeon Siege III; it's just a synonym for "hard" difficulty. It's possible that you won't even notice the difficulty until you attempt to fight a boss. However, a lot of people who express frustration at certain bosses on hardcore difficulty largely ignore the game mechanics involved in this game. There's an in-game help feature that explains what this game's version of item affixes do. If you pick the affixes that will let you play the way you want to (as I assume was intended), then boss fights may well be long, but they will neither be impossible nor really even dangerous. I've beaten the game on hardcore before and after the DLC was released. The DLC's enchant feature just makes it easier to stack certain item affixes. That said, dodge, block, and movement are your best friends in this game. Additionally, if you should decide to play this game online on hardcore, make sure you equip all of your extra characters with items.
