As for the omnislash? It's possible to get it on disc 1, it just depends if you're willing to go through a very tough and long battle session with low level characters. To get the omnislash you'd need 51,200 BP from battle square. A basic essential to have before even attempting this would be the ribbon. A ribbon is pretty much a must have, as that allows you to stop the handicap reels on status effects without them working, effectively giving you a free round. Without that you will suffer every round, and be unlikely to make it through to the end (also, the most harmful effects, such as mini and frog, give you more BP in the end, making ribbon even more useful as it doesn't take points off for having it equipped).
Without the ribbon, the odds are just completely stacked against you, although you're still welcome to try. It's much more advisable to wait until late disc 2 or early disc 3 when you can get the slash-all materia and neo-bahamut. But, without those, it's still possible, just really hard.
