WoW Clone
I saw that this is free to play and wanted to give it a chance. However I had been hearing mixed reviews about it, one of them being it is a WoW clone. Can anyone dispute this?

it is a WoW clone yes but it is very well done unlike other WoW clones, there is differences but it feels more like old school WoW than what we have now.. give it a try its free after all!

In some ways it is a clear WoW clone (especially at launch), but over time it has developed its own identity.

If you're looking for a game like WoW-but-not, and F2P, Rift may be the best out there.

I disagree with most people's comments. To me Rift is not a wow clone, because I never saw a random raid event in World of warcraft, I've never seen WoW with character class customization on the level that rift has. And I've certainly never seen bosses of raids on the scale of World of warcraft.

I think that because world of warcraft is the most well known MMO out right now, almost every MMO that could be made will be labeled a WoW clone, simply because the basic structures used by WoW will more than likely be used In every MMO that isn't action combat based, like tera or raiderz.

Personally I think Rift is better than WoW ever was. I've yet to log on and be unable to find something to do, which I find very enjoyable, where as in WoW, most everything I did in the later levels I ended up waiting for weeks on end to do.

"To me Rift is not a wow clone"

They literally made callouts to WoW everywhere.

However, yes, it's not *really* a CLONE. You know what the actual clones are, and they tend to come from Asia.

WoW was *derived* from EQ in many aspects, but WoW truly did inspire a ton of games that almost literally were clones of it. Runes of Magic, for example, was one.

It is a WoW clone, but it's a clone of WoW back when it was good...as a result you have a game here thats good and less dumbed down than current WoW, quite a few of the things that i liked in WoW have been removed but are still present here.

It is but it isn't. It has the same kind of mechanics like WoW, but puts its own spin on it. It adds random events, more custom classes (You can have your mage do support and then switch to damage when you need to) and a better story. The story in Rift is much better than in WoW. I'll most likely resub to WoW after I see what WoD adds to the game. I hear that it's suppose to bring things back to how it was in vanilla. If it does then I'll just resub, but with WoD coming out at the end of the year Rift will take up a lot of my time.

It's more of a selling point than anything. I'm a long time WoW player, and quit a few weeks in to Cataclysm. I had played Rift at launch and really enjoyed it, however my pc couldnt really handle it too well and I had ended up leaving WoW for FFXIV 1.0 since it was different from the whole thing. However now that FFXIV was remade to be a bit more modern in design, and became insanely casual I've been searching for something. EQ2 was good for a while, and so was EQ, but they're dated and require a lot from the player in a lot of cercumstances (great MMOs, but I dont want to spend ALL of my time in them). So going back to Rift after a few tries, and making a whole new character I've started to get old WoW memories, flooding back while leveling. This game feels like Vanilla WoW in all the right ways, and throws in some amazing class customization and has a quick leveling curve so you can quickly get to the raid scene. The only downside is the PVP seems horribly balanced, or too balanced, to the point where you want it to be like Vanilla WoW world pvp but its just meh.

Those millions must all be in dungeons then as they arent on the world map..

Ghost town when I tried it...

Have fun playing as an undead mage collecting flowers & pumpkin seeds:/
