Great Simulator, Horrible Game

I know NASA tried to add game aspects to this, but I wouldn't call Moonbase Alpha a game, and if I did, I'd say it was a horrible one. The mechanics and physics of realistic EVAs just don't make for fun gameplay, and leaderboards don't make up for that.

I will call this a great simulator, though. For people like me who are interested in realistic depictions of future space travel (Atomic Rockets FTW), this is a great experience. NASA put a lot of detail into making the EVA as hard as the real thing without making it unplayable. I'd be interested to see if they make more like this in the future.

Yea, this isn't a game, it's a simulator (I'm agreeing with you sto-ifics42). NASA put too much work in the physics to call this a game but I still find it fun to weld and such.

It's a free simulator, so why not give it a try. If you don't like it, it is uninstalled easily. So there isn't anything to lose really.

This isnt a game. This isnt a simulator. Its an online text-to-speech experience. Thats all it ever was, and ever will be.

You only play this game for text to speech. If you actually try to play this game, you're doing it wrong. Incredibly wrong.

This is definately designed in the image of a simulator. Howerver, it's not the most serious of simulators. The main evidence for that is the fact that it is set in the future, with future technology. They have tried to make this more like a game with the addition of sound effects. In real life, you wouldn't hear the sounds of what you are doing - sound doesn't travel throught the vaccum of space!
Although this is a wierd combination, it's a good game, and if the full online MMO that NASA is planning is anything like this, it will be one of the greatest games of recent times!
