The higher the tier you craft, the more the skill goes up, I think.
There's a passive to increase the amount of skill increase.
There's a passive that gives a bonus to crafting chance.
There's a passive to reduce the chance of losing mats from failed attempts.
My metalurgy and hi-tech items are maxxed at 350, but everything else is pretty low. Next highest is botanizing at 125 (mostly from transmuting leaves). A couple others around 90-100, but most are still below 50. I'm gen 22 with over 100 hours in the game.
The only thing worse that skilling up crafting is skilling up combat. My base attack skill is 8 with a bonus of 30. I've killed hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of creatures.
WAY too slow and unbalanced.
There are a lot of inconsistences with skills ... I guess it is still EA. Like you can make carpets with 100% success rate, but not the dye's to colour them ... Dyes start incredibly low and barely get better with a lot of use.
Have you looked at the character screen and checked out both the Skills and the Bonus screens.
The bonus screen lets you can select which activities get a bigger passive bonus.
You can add points into generation Basics, Harvesting and Crafting basics. Where each level tier you can add will increase +5 then +10 +15 and +20 ... giving a possible total of +50% for that particular skill or attribute.
The bonuses for Combat and Weapon use haven't been added yet which is probably why it seems all over the place.
Generally if you try to use all your skills you'll make a better all around character. Use Fighting and defending to get your fighting prowess up higher ..... yep it takes an incredible amount to raise to the max
I started by focusing on every skill that is doable through transmutation, then went for the others afterwards. That will let you craft alot of decent items already (and get higher tier ressources too), which in turn grants you bonuses to help with the skills you struggle on.
