OS X Save Location
Where is the save game data stored on OS X? Also, can the save game file be transferred and used on a Windows machine?

Thanks

Hi, save files are in ~/Library/Preferences/Faerie Solitaire
You can transfer save files between Windows and Mac, but you need to do it manually - Steam Cloud isn't supported.

Thanks! I've been loving the game, and want to keep my progress when I head out of town :)

So I seem to have come across an issue. I am back on my PC now, but copying the files from my OS X play through did not work. Upon some poking around, it seems the save data on the mac client (specifically the username.usr file) is saved as plain text, but on the PC client, it is encoded some how (opening it in notepad shows random ascii characters). Is there any way I can convert my OS X save?

Did you play DRM-free copy of Faerie Solitaire on your Mac? DRM-free save files aren't compatible with the Steam version (Steam save files are encrypted, DRM-free save files aren't). I don't know how this encryption works, but I can try to make unecrypted -> encrypted save files converter.

Or did we accidentally put an unencrypted version to Steam? :O I'll need to try it. Not right now, we are announcing something tomorrow so I'm pretty busy :)

Yea, it was the Steam version for OS X, so you must have put up an unencrypted version :)
If there's a way to convert it great, if not, oh well. I'll look forward to your announcement tomorrow. Keep up the awesome work!

I see it now. I really published an unecrypted version. :(

Well, time to fix it (if it's possible)... Watch our group for the announcement today.

I'm having trouble moving my save files from Windows to Mac. I can find the files in Windows and copied the entire directory to ~/Library/Preferences/Faerie Solitaire in OS X. But when I play Faerie Solitaire in adventure mode, it creates a new game and none of my progress in adventure mode, or on pets, Faerieland, etc is there.

Are there any tricks to getting this to work?

We accidentally uploaded Mac version with unecrypted save files, so not right now. We will release save file converter and update the Mac version to use encrypted save files.

Ok - got it. Thanks for the info.

Are there any news on this?

Nope, 8 days to the Eternal Bundle[www.eternalbundle.com] launch and I'm trying to make it in time, so I don't have time to create the save file converter. Soon!

I've got a better solution: We'll just try to load both encrypted (Steam for Windows) and unencrypted (Steam for Mac + DRM free) save files so everything is covered, no need for converting save files or somehow messing with them out of the game. I think this is the best solution for this problem. ;) Still no Steam cloud though, sorry.
Patch incoming! I'll test it with a few people first, so wait a few days (it has more new features).

Try the new beta patch, FS now supports both encrypted and unencrypted saves. Backup your save files, it's possible that it still has some bugs. Steam achievements work only on Mac in this beta, I'll update it soon(ish) for Windows and Linux - waiting for a developer of the runtime we are using.
